Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (J.J. Abrams, December 20, 2019) Movie • Page 335

  1. I saw this today - all in all I liked it. The Disney trilogy as a whole has been fairly hit or miss for me - a bunch of stuff I love and a bunch I don’t. This was more of the same for me.

For me personally Star Wars has always been about the sense of adventure and this movie captured that for me. I’m not sure it’s the ending of the Skywalker saga that I would’ve wanted but I can see myself throwing this on for some fun in the future.

I really would’ve rather had JJ or RJ just tackle the whole sequel trilogy. I generally like what each brought to the franchise and would’ve loved some more cohesiveness in the storytelling department.

Being in 1999 it’s a real shame we didn’t get a “da bomb” out of Jar Jar.

  11. Now I’m thinking about how many Stormtroopers die and that they were brainwashed stolen children and there’s some ethical questions we should not think too much about.

And we hear how they are poor and taken as children and the only two we know (Finn and the girl) are the same race

The Sith troopers are all brain washed. They were all innocent. Oh well, gotta do some explosions!

Saw this a second time, enjoyed it more this tome tbh, since I was mentally prepared for some of the plot and pacing gymnastics I had to go through. Adam and Daisy really shine in this. I could feel how different Ben was after the Leia scene, and how different Rey felt after leaving Kylos destroyer.

This is shaping up to be how I view The Last Jedi, I love the things I love (Rey/Kylo/Luke) dislike the things I dislike (Slowest chase in space history/general first order and resistance stuff/canto bight) and each viewing asserts that.

Sad to say I didn’t notice that Rey healed Ben’s face scar on either viewing somehow. When it was pointed out I could look back and go, “oh yes, my brain saw it but didn’t note it.”

  22. Maybe the books, comics and shows fill this out and/or I’m just a dummy - but I still have no idea of the size/scope of the First Order and why a resistance was needed in the first place (where’s the New Republic armed forces?).

That part has bothered me with the main film series and expected a little more info in the movies by this point. (Perhaps I’ve missed something in the movies about this?)

The First Order has already destroyed the current government and the resistance was all but destroyed. And Sheev was apparently behind the First Order. So, why did he need a secret fleet? And if he gave a 16 hour warning, why was so much of the fleet not out at planets ready to destroy them already? Why did they only show 3 planets fighting back when we are aware of so many more? We’re those First Order of Final Order ships on those 3 planets?

    no one knows.

  24. Thanks for the extra clarity - kind of forgot that part during TFA. These movies definitely have some great character work, but logistics of the current galaxy are a bit rough.

I want to listen to FC so they can make me feel better about this whole mess but it’s hard for me to imagine anything can do that right now and I also really have no desire to absorb any Star Wars content for awhile which is something I’d never thought I’d say lol
