This reddit post from a year and a half ago kinda sums up JJ nicely

Someone posted a tweet a while back basically saying that we ended up with the rushed and unsatisfying Rise because Disney needed to have this movie out by this time for the shareholders to get their bonuses or some other corporate profit shenanigans, and that JJ Abrams probably would have loved more than anyone to have had more time to work on the story and the script.

I like to think this is true and not that JJ is a cynical asshole with such little respect for the people who pay their hard-earned and extremely important to them money to keep him in the position he is in.

It should have just been Sith holocrons.

What is the difference between a holocron and a wayfinder...???

Casually fan here who only watches the movies. And played the N64 video games a LONG time ago I guess.

Yeah like, a sith wayfinder doesn’t really fit into the overall tone that the episodic films have established, but they totally make sense and fit the tone in the extended universe

This is the first mention of a sith wayfinder

The way finder is new. It seems to only exist to get Sith to exogol or however it is spelled. And you just plug stuff into it, I guess.

a holocron can hold all sorts of information and can only be opened with the force. It can be holomesssges, data, all sorts of information. Could have easily been used here. And if you combine a Sith and Jedi holocron, shit gets real haha

That's clearly not the case if you watch his Star Trek movies.

I know this isn't the worst star wars movie, but the messages it sends and how it handles these characters... it is probably my least favorite movie. Every day I feel worse about it.

Sat with this for a bit, and I'll still say that I love it, but completely understand the flaws, story issues, and lack of coherence that is now a very clear staple of the sequel trilogy.

I have this weird fear that in like 6 years time Disney are gonna strike this trilogy from canon and try again, I am an overthinker though. :crylaugh:

I really hope Disney takes all these negative reactions to heart and tries to correct them for the next set of films. Hopefully this 3 year gap should give them enough time to consider it all

Also, I'm looking forward to a time when this all settles, and Disney just slow down the Star Wars train for a few years, apart from their D+ shows, etc, which apparently is what's happening? Correct me if I'm wrong.

No more films for a while. The fandom's in such a terrible place right now, but general consensus amongst them is that the shows are good. Let us sit with those for some years.

I’m sure more time would have made this movie better, but at the same time I disagree with JJ’s fundamental approach to this film at just about every level and time wouldn’t have fixed that.

This was pretty much my viewing experience. As soon they showed him in physical form and just made Kylo an easily manipulated guy again. I think the Kylo from TLJ would have just murdered Palps right then and there. I tried so hard to get into it, but it was just doomed right there.

The moment I was starting to engage with it again, they made Rey a Palpatine and then I just died a little inside again.

Then finally, just when there may have been a glimmer of hope after the Kylo/Ben turn, JJ pulls out another superweapon and then metaphorically and literally blows up all hope I had left.

Yeah honestly if they just got there and Rey was like “I sense it’s over here” it would have been better.

This. Lando hitting on her was never something that occurred to me until I came to this thread. It just seemed like a sweet moment of someone who's seen it all wanting to help someone who is trying it figure it out. It's one of the few moments I like in this :-/

I liked TPM a ton as a kid and could barely sit trough it last week. Nostalgia can only carry you so far.

that’s how I read it too. Just setting up them going on an adventure to find her past.

I would want to see some sources for some things she cites, but an interesting thought either way.

Maybe it’s in the 3 and 1/2 directors cut that will (hopefully:fingerscrossed:) be coming to blu ray

I’m fairly certain J.J. is against stuff like that.
