I can. Originally the series ended with Palpatine trying to do the same thing to Luke. It’s what he does

As an English teacher, I feel like I need to have a long and serious talk about “show, don’t tell” with the people that wrote this.

I mean, after George added the midiclorians it kind of matters based on your blood. Even though it’s a dumb concept it’s canon and I imagine the force particles in your blood would be genetic. It would make sense why Luke was so strong after Anakin after only training for a year. Why Rey can pick up things so quickly from being a Palpatine, etc. Those two became as strong as Jedi masters in a much shorter time span than Jedis would train pre-ANH. People can obviously be born strong without an ancestor being powerful because I doubt everyone on the Jedi council was related lol. So I would say the bloodline can make you stronger but it’s not the only way a Jedi can become strong. It’s just like a boost.

The more you ignore midochlorians the better. The most important people in the universe constantly being related to the other most important people in the universe sucks. In fact, the setup of Rey, an abandoned scavenger who came from nothing, Finn, a janitor stormtrooper, Poe, a former spice runner, and even Rose, whose origin I don’t completely recall but it doesn’t seem like she came from the most higher status place, battling against Kylo Ren, the son of Leia and Han Solo, is a great thematic playground that this movie completely pisses on

I’d like to see that be focused on in a Disney+ series.

  6. Why after realizing he could heal himself using their life force didn’t he just suck all of it out and get even more healed and just kill them by sucking it all out? Did I miss a line of dialog about that?

i get this, and agree with this, but i don't understands rey's importance to the trilogy without the reveal. all of her relationships were based on the fact that she's a palpatine. maybe its more of an issue with the entirety of the trilogy rather than this situation, but i thought in the context they've been presenting, this was a fine option

  8. Justifying a bad decision with maybe the worst decision in the entire franchise is ... one way to go.

  9. In a time where rich aristocrats are being elected to office based on nothing except their name and money it woulda actually said something powerful too.

An ordinary person being thrust into extraordinary circumstances is the cornerstone of a lot of great art, including A New Hope. Of course they expand upon that in Empire but that would make Rey’s place in the story even more significant, in that her background is seemingly insignificant.

lol trust me I dislike that George introduced midiclorians but until someone makes it non canon then it’s technically justified for story purposes. Maybe someone in the future will make it obsolete

  12. They literally had the option right here to not do it and chose differently. Hell, J.J. himself said differently only a few years ago and then shit himself instead.

'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker': J.J. Abrams Explains If Force Abilities Must Come From a Character's Bloodline
It is an absolute mistake to say that you have to be related to a particular person or blood line to have power with the Force. Since I was a child, one of the most moving things for me was to know what anyone could be a Jedi.

they wrote the script, they had the power to do whatever they wanted and Imo chose poorly

Again, Palpatine’s son apparently had nothing. So the force is not controlled by a bloodline, even if you include the concept of midichlorians which we don’t know much about because everyone in the world reacted to it by screaming, “what the fuck you crazy old man?”

Ezra Bridger was very strong with the force and grew faster than Kanan could really handle for awhile. But Rebels didn’t go out of its way to be like, oops, just kidding about you being a Bridger, you are a descendent of PLO Koon or some shit. He was just Ezra Bridger. That’s all he needed to be.

all that Rey needed to be was Rey. Being Rey Palpatine truly added nothing. It only took away from her story.

I still need to see it, but everything I’m reading about plot points and whatnot makes it seem like every single decision that they made is the opposite of how I was hoping.

Yeah JJ likes to contradict himself. I remember the whole “not khan” push he was making before Star Trek Into Darkness. There’s plenty of Star Wars material that supports what he said, though, but he shouldn’t have said that during the marketing for TROS knowing Rey’s lineage.

  16. I wonder how pissed off force ghost Anakin is to find out that you can actually use the force to heal and bring someone back from the dead all these years later.

between that and his sacrifice to “kill” the emperor not really working out and he’s gotta he like wtf dudes

Perhaps Palaptine’s son never trained or wanted to become a Jedi. I know I wouldn’t want to knowing my dad was Palpatine. Luke and Rey wouldn’t have grown strong if they didn’t train for a little bit.

She is the last Jedi. How is that not of vital importance to the entire saga and trilogy?

all of her relationships were based on being a Palpatine? The hell? Is that what you meant to say because it’s 100% not true.

imagine if rather than again grappling with who her parents are in this movie, she instead grapples with being the last Jedi and how serious a position she is in to pass on what she has learned and maintain balance. Imagine how much greater the past Jedi voices moment would have been if it it had been the culmination of her fully taking on the mantle of the last Jedi?

The thing is, glossing over something like midiclorians isn’t hard in a franchise full of weird inconsistencies. But, if you really wanna reference them (which, honestly, maybe I would’ve, ‘cause I like when comics succeed at treating disparate elements as one canon that somehow works), it’s an option to do so in a way that deconstructs the original concept & leans into what the Force should be.

again, don't disagree. but thats not what they presented, and i was fine with what they presented is all im saying lmao. this movie and trilogy had a lot of flaws and was all over the place which is why im still pretty confused

But if he had been strong in the force purely off midiclorians, why wouldn’t palpy just use him? When he had the hunter search for Rey she hadn’t trained at all, she was just a child. Why would you not take the adult man at this point? Unless he wasn’t strong in the force. But he is a Palpatine so he had to be, right? Yet, he clearly wasn’t. So why does Rey need to be a Palpatine? No one knows.

  24. My expectations for the flip and cut the ship and have it crash and Kylo just walk around and be fine and like shrug I didn’t expect after that first trailer. I thought that was gonna be something else and it was just literally what we got from trailer 1.
