I got a brother/sister vibe from Poe and Rey, especially, from their bickering but I always thought the two of them would be that way towards each other so I liked seeing it

I just didn’t want you to let them off the hook for it, ha. I actually had to stop TLJ near the end yesterday because I mistimed it before leaving, so I finished it today. Luke’s death made me cry harder than anything in this even though I had seen it before and was watching it broken up from the complete experience. Those moments were so much more meaningful and touching even out of context.

  3. If J.J. made ANH right after Obi Wan dies and they fly away we’d get a scene where he was actually hiding on the Falcon and is fine.

I can’t believe how many times they went to this well on the movie.

@Jason Tate enjoyed your thoughts on this in the newsletter. Went to see it today and thought it was fine overall. They did things I loved and things I hated. I didn’t get a chance to rewatch TFA or TLJ beforehand so I plan to do that before I record my podcast on this one just so I can have the context.

I liked how we got a scene where Poe is worried about the final battle and is like "what am I going to do, none of the OT characters who beat Palpatine are here to lead us and save the day" and Lando's like "we didn't have anybody like that to save us back then, you just gotta go out there and believe in yourself and figure it out on your own!"

But then you get to the final battle and when all hope is lost, how do they pull off victory? Oh, very literally that same OT character who told you to dig deep and figure it out on your own is here with an inexplicably large army to save the day for you.

The biggest applause and reaction of the entire movie was when the help showed up. I was not prepared for how much people were into that moment.

Genuinely think that if the movie had to end up the way it did, they 100% should have had Palps scream “UNLIMMMMITED POWAHHHH!” as he shot lightning into the sky.

The hiss Dark Rey makes made me laugh out loud in the theater. By far the dumbest thing in the movie.

    run away with me Platinum

Rey and Poe fighting over joint custody over BB-8 broke me more than Marriage Story, I'd be mad if a tree fell on my precious son BB-8 too, also why was Beebs chilling with her and not him that was weird
Lupita's role in this one was weird, also still pressed they made her an alien so we couldn't see her face
I feel like they dug themselves into a real hole with Reylo because they probably couldn't predict how good their chemistry would be, and I'm still not sure if they're supposed to be like siblings or in love or both idk it happened to his mom whose surname she took weird
Rey's parentage seemed like a cheap twist and I understand why that and Kylo being conflicted over his Jedi heritage would make people mad, I don't think he was quite redeemed but they didn't really reckon with the fact that he murdered thousands of people for power

    also Dark Rey is basically

Is it just me or did the stadium full of Sith acolytes sound like the very beginning of Duel of the Fates when Palpatine started taking their life force?

Remembering how Rian asked JJ to make R2 be the one to accompany Rey to see Luke when it originally was supposed to be BB-8. His insistence on including BB-8 is so strange (especially now at the end of TROS). Why even bother making it Poe’s droid to begin with then if it’s supposed to go with Rey everywhere?

Brought up on the Big Picture podcast: why did Palpatine want Rey to kill him if he could just suck the life out of her and Ben? He just didn’t know he could do that until they were both in front of him?

@Jason Tate Sean and Mallory also question why it’s different when Rey kills Palp with the lighting stuff from when he was telling her to kill him

I loved this. Maybe I’m just a casual fan, but I gave up trying to find logic in sci-fi awhile ago, so I’m not picking it apart. Very fun film.

this is honestly what I heard too, 'goals' didn't even cross my mind

maybe because I'm not hip with the times. I thought people stopped saying 'goals' in like 2017

Would she have turned to the dark side if she killed Snoke in the throne room? She tried to do so with a lot of anger

I truly can’t believe that the entire final battle of the series boils down to Palpatine trying to “gotcha” Rey into becoming a sith like it’s the cake or death skit.

I still have to process my thoughts on this, but here are my quick reactions

    - Was a mess and all over the place

    - I like Rey being a Palpatine
    - They had 83 different endings in mind for this and they decided to do all of them

    - For every pro this movie had, there was a direct con

    - I completely understand the 50% rating on RT

    - Finn finally almost had a purpose
