Who did Hamill's hair for this film? My God

Also, why was Poe so mad at Rey for dropping the tree on Bb8? I honestly didn’t see any damage to him either screening. Am I crazy? Or did the dialogue not match what we were seeing?

I actually generally enjoy this movie more than TFA at the current moment (we’ll see how time changes that) but it’s really exhausting.

Anyway where’s the Rian Johnson trilogy

I rolled my eyes so damn hard at that respect line, like it was just such an obvious, gratuitous nod to the TLJ haters and Hamill relished delivering it so much.

that whole scene was weird and exhausting, they were clearly trying for comedy and, it did not land

I missed that despite really trying to figure it out the second time through. Now I know what to look for next time, thanks!

I thought it was intended to be flirty, like Han and Leia. But then it never happened again

It's like they didn't like TLJ and tried to cram 2 movies of JJs trilogy into one film. The majority of the emotional beats don't land. This movie is exactly why fan service doesn't work

    TENET looks dope though

If this was how it was going to end, then a lot of legwork needed to be done in TLJ. Again, a hint of where the story was going from 7-9 would have been helpful here. I'm not saying write out every detail, but have something you are building towards.

It felt like they were trying to set up romantic connections between every combination of two characters in the entire film.

Finn's about to tell Rey he loves her (You can't convince me he was going to tell her he can feel the force)

Might be reading too much into it but it felt like there might be a romantic connection between Finn and the ex-stormtrooper

Rey and Poe's bickering felt like they were trying to set them up as a Han and Leia type relationship (when that scene happened I literally had to stop myself from yelling "NO")

Poe and Zorri obviously had a little thing

Lando and ex-stormtrooper girl, I don't even know what the fuck that was

Everybody BUT Finn and Rose, literally the only previously established romance going into this film. I cannot even comprehend this mess

There needed to be a plan for this trilogy. But if there wasn't going to be a plan, and you were going to let Rian Johnson do whatever he wanted, then you can't just go back on all that stuff because a vocal minority of nerds online weren't happy with it.

I have to feel like accountants were involved in this decision too. No way Disney is going guide its multi-billion dollar franchise solely on the ramblings of a minority of people.

Honestly, I think the answer is 100% simply so that you can have this shot:

but as far as inside the movie logic, yeah it makes no fucking sense whatsoever.

yeah of course that’s the reason (and Stoklasa says as much in the review as well), that’s the reason behind 90% of what JJ does as a director (and I don’t think he’s a bad director btw)

Honestly I don’t think you needed a plan. TLJ ends very open. Kylo is Supreme Leader and the Resistance is on the run and weakened but hopeful. That alone is full of dramatic possibility. You can write anything. They just wrote a bad movie.

After sitting with this for a day or so, I definitely think it’s a fine movie with some wacky, convoluted storytelling. If anything I think i’m glad the Skywalker saga is (supposedly) over. Definitely ready for a massive time jump and a totally different story.
