That’s what makes Palpatine’s return especially laughable and terrible. No mystery, it’s the crawl, him thrown on the screen right from the jump, and some terrible exposition; “The Emperor, he’s back, he’s been in the shadows, for 30 years, pulling the strings.”

Anybody else remember when Plo Koon used a yellow lightsaber before George randomly decided that all Jedi except Sam Jackson used blue or green sabers?

There were already too many returning existing characters that didn't have anything to do to introduce so many new characters that also didn't have anything to do. Get rid of D-O, Jannah, Klaud, and Dom Monaghan's character and have the cast we already know and love doing all that stuff (which admittedly wasn't much anyway).

  7. I can only focus on the bad right now, but I did enjoy parts of this ... and had some fun and will see it again (probably multiple times) when it comes out. Probably not in theaters (would be a first for a saga movie).

(I left Spectre being like "oh god never make me watch that again," and didn't feel that way this time.)

The main reason is I keep thinking about this core part:

After rewatching the scene of Rey’s saber, it looks like it may be orange. Maybe a mix of yellow/orange?

It's still better than all of the prequels, and Solo, and Rogue One. And a lot of the things that happened in it were cool, I just wish they had been set up in the previous films/not been done in spite of what Rian Johnson did. And I was entertained by it, I ultimately enjoyed the ride despite my problems with it. I don't hate the movie, but I hate a lot of things about it, basically.

I adore Dominic Monaghan but he added nothing. Nothing. Could have been anyone in that role or just cut completely and nothing would change.

Yeah it was so weird seeing him in a throwaway role like this when he was a top-billed cast member of one of the biggest movie trilogies in history.

It’s because Hurley ranted at him about it.

Very surprised JJ didn’t put Yoda in this

That’s one of the couple things I wish would’ve happened. All we got was him speaking to Rey during the fight. Oh well

Seen it twice now and I still love it despite some flaws.
-I agree the first half of the film is too fast and needs more quiet, character moments, but it didn’t bother me much the second time.
-While it wouldn’t have been my first choice, the fact that Rey is a Palpatine works for me because I like the idea of her choosing to step beyond her family legacy to become better and Kylo/Ben stepping back into his.
-Thematically I think this completes the Skywalker Saga really well. The prequels are the fall of Skywalker, the original trilogy is the rise and redemption of the Skywalkers, and the sequel trilogy is the legacy of the Skywalkers.
-I’m excited for all of the upcoming stories we’ll get to fill out the gaps (Palpatine’s return/plan, Rey afterward training Finn as a Jedi, Jannah’s stormtrooper rebellion, Poe’s spice history). I won’t argue that some of this information should have been in the movie, but I’m excited to get those stories eventually.

Honestly I'd rather watch Rogue One over this. It's straight forward at least and doesn't make me scratch my head. This has some cool visuals and fun nods but ultimately is very unsatisfying with no third act like Rogue One to rescue it.

If handled better, it would have been cool to better understand Ben's infatuation with his grandfather, against Rey's rejection of hers.

A lot of my posts about this are like "i like this but it would have been so much better if..." and that bums me out.

To me the entire trilogy screams of missed opportunities. They had some great ideas and should have spent a little more time working them out.

Yeah I’d take Rogue One over this in a heartbeat, and I’m not even the biggest fan of that one.
