That was awesome that you shared that. Your rankings are so close with mine - but man does it really just reinforce that I need to sit my ass down and watch The Force Awakens again.

It’s definitely lucas’ fault for the misplaced acting. Ewan has even gone on record saying Star Wars was the worst acting in his career. It seems like George didn’t really spend much time on directing the actors on their scenes and was more inclined to just hurry and film the shots and get into post.

I wish I could go to an alternate universe and see what the prequel story would look like with different writers, directors, producers. The foundation of George’s story was brilliant but everything else was a train wreck.

i don't even think the story was good honestly lol

the only redeemable thing about the prequels is john williams' score and the qui/obi/maul battle

The idea of the prequels is bad in general.

Changing Star Wars to Episode IV however long it was into its’ release was such a stupid idea.

Nah I love Palpatine being a Senator who rises to be the puppet master for both sides of the war with the Separatists and the clone army stuff with Syfo Dias. Something I’ve never seen. Also portraying the Jedi as dogmatic and so vain they couldn’t see the dark side creep in the backdoor. Love it. He just failed at basically everything else.

I think the Clone Wars series shows a more accurate depiction of what George was going for.

No, I meant that the idea of it starting on #4 is stupid that he had to make three whole movies as the prequels. He shouldn’t have numbered them at all, just had the subtitles and when he decided to do prequels, he could have left it at one or two movies and not been forced to stretch out shitty storylines to be enough for three movies.

*whispers* I like the Obi/Anakin fight just as much as obi/jinn/maul when choreography/music are separated from the terrible directing/scripts

Ahh gotcha. I can agree that I didn’t need the numbers but I disagree with the stretching out though. I’m fine with the trilogy he just focused on the wrong parts (Jake Lloyd Anakin) and executed basically all of it in the wrong way. (Especially with the CGI)

I go back and forth with that fight. Sometimes Im able to just sit back and enjoy the flashing lights and nonsense then other times it just feels so hollow and superficial. Will always love Ewans speech and delivery after dismantling Anakin though

Yeah the lack of connection between Obi-Wan and Anakin doesn’t give as much weight to the fight. To me though, all Obi-Wan and Jinn are doing is trying to keep Maul away. While the Obi-Wan/Anakin fight, Kenobo is trying to save his friend

There are little bits and pieces of the Obi-Wan & Anakin fight from ROTS that work for me - like Ewan's delivery that Dodger mentioned earlier - but overall in general I really feel like it is anticlimactic and less than the sum of its parts. Emotionally, it should be on par with Luke's fight on the bridge at the end of ROTJ, but I never feel that level of emotion except in brief flashes.

Using the end of The Phantom Menace to illustrate my point, its like the difference in emotion between the scenes of Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon taking on Darth Maul in the lightsaber fight vs. the scenes of the Gungans fighting the Trade federation droids. I don't think Obi-Wan vs. Anakin at the end of ROTS is quite as emotionless and vapid as the Gungans vs. the droids, but for me it is closer to that than it is to the level of Luke/Vader/Palpatine from ROTJ or Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon/Maul from TPM, when by all rights it should be one of the most emotional and affecting scenes in all of Star Wars.

Like I said, when it comes to prequels I don’t use the script/directing when talking about the duels because they are all equally and in that regard. I use what I’ve gathered elsewhere to make the scene mean something to me. Like to me the only emotion involved is when Qui-Gon gets got while Obi-Wan can’t do anything. Which is fairly anti-climatic to me without having read some of the books about their time together (still a good scene though). That fight is fairly tame outside of Maul really. Whereas Anakin vs. Obi-Wan has some of the best sword/lightsaber fight moves and sequences of any movie I’ve seen. Like watching the behind the scenes is pretty crazy for that scene.

I feel like it might have been a little better if it hadn’t been spliced with the yoda/palpatine duel, but Lucas couldn’t resist showing Yoda off one last time

I really hope JJ makes up for the absence of Leia hugging Chewy in 9 and really all the slights Chewy has undergone over the years. Like he gets a massive group hug. And a Fried Porg Buffet. And an obnoxiously huge medal. And does something bad-ass like a lightsaber fight with Kylo and avenges Hans death!!!!!!!!!

For real though I think the best thing would be he goes home to Kashyyyk
