Machete is cool in that it actually makes finding out Luke and Leia are siblings a surprise (pending you haven’t already seen the movies)

also preserves the Palpatine reveal. if you watch in order you know he's the emperor the whole time, if you watch new hope and empire, you just know this mysterious cloaked hologram. but then by the time you meet him in person in rotj, you have his whole rise to power back story which is pretty cool.

Honestly, after debating months ago whether or not it's in my #5 spot, I'm settling into it being my clear #4 (which makes TLJ's #3 ranking that much more meaningful). Watching a better quality transfer of the theatrical (4K83) really reestablished my appreciation for it.

My biggest critique is that it feels like the last three episodes of a season of television strung together. Like, the whole Jabba chunk works as a standalone adventure. Then, if you take that small Vader sequence at the beginning & put it w/ the second act, it works as a penultimate episode, w/ the third act then being the finale. I've started viewing that as a feature more than a flaw, though, as clunky as it can feel when viewed as one film, especially since each part does really work well for what it's doing.

Except if you go that quickly from the ending of Revenge to the second act of Return, the way those don't line up has to become that much more frustrating, lol. Like, all Lucas had to do is let Padme live & go w/ Leia, & then get rid of Vader's "NOOOOO" at having killed her. Oh well. At least the rest of the movie is also pretty bad.

The best viewing order is one without the prequels at all

    The best viewing order:

theatrical Star Wars "A New Hope" via 4K77
current iTunes/Disney+ version of Empire Strikes Back
theatrical Return of the Jedi via 4K83
The Phantom Menace DVD w/ ugly puppet Yoda
    The Last Jedi
    Empire Strikes Back again
    YouTube clips from Rebels
    Rogue One
    Star Wars again
    Empire again

Yea, that's a pretty good way to describe it. I agree though, it doesn't hurt the movie in my opinion.

    Oy vey.

EDIT: this is not a confirmed leak, just a theory thats been circulating the web for ages that an article thats apparently since been deleted references. This theory spoiler tagged below has been discussed in this thread before without any spoiler tags around it.

i have always thought that rey being palpatines granddaughter made absolutely no sense what so ever

Deleted the post - upon further thought the title gave too much away imo, my mistake

considering all the Burger King stuff that has happened i'm starting to think these leaks aren't that accurate. i like to think they are all wrong and this is Disney's way of addressing it

I accidentally saw it too, but there's just no way that spoiler is true. I will not believe it.

Disney wouldn’t put that much effort into trolling leakers. The only explanation in my mind is that Burger King saw the leaks and for some batshit reason, thought advertising them was a good idea. Presumably without Disney’s permission.

DISCUSSION OF RUMORED BIG PLOT LEAKS THAT I DON'T 100% BELIEVE YET

I think, if they say she's in the lineage or whatever of Palpatine, that can make sense. But, specifically "granddaughter" doesn't make a lot of sense & is pretty convoluted, especially considering character ages & timeline. Unless, of course, cloning or midichlorians or something is involved, which I'd actually like more than granddaughter, lol, 'cause at least it'd be both silly genre nonsense & soapy, instead of just soapy.

I've got a lot of other thoughts on how these leaks still play into the adoption angle & commentary on biology & bloodlines that I love about Rey, as long as we get more movies about Jedi who genuinely have nothing to do w/ any other Force sensitive lineage. But, I wanna save those thoughts for after I actually watch the film. Even if I find out next, like, Tuesday that the leaks are mostly accurate, I wanna see the film itself, not an outlined plot, before judging.

BTH! I will only assume this means he's going to show up in some sort of Star Wars property in the future.

I would die for a Lando film starring the cast of Atlanta, written by Donald and directed by Hiro Murai.
