  1. Seriously though who runs straight ahead of a donut shaped rolling object; turn left you idiot!

Vince Gilligan of “Breaking Bad” constantly harped on it being a bad idea to get married to conclusions for a story, especially when it’s a collaborative process like a writer’s room. He said most of his planned plot points were challenged as idiotic and the best writing came from other writers contesting his ideas. The thought that JJ should have mapped it out is insane.

Prometheus sucks. Half a billion miles doesn’t even take you out of the solar system. Details matter.

Listen. I’m not here to argue “Prometheus,” other than to say it’s better than “Alien: Covenant.”

Worrying about the size of the galaxy or the direction a character runs in Prometheus feels like criticizing TLJ for bombs dropping in space or explosions making sound in any Star Wars. It’s such a minor, minor thing to get hung up on that it seems silly to let it ruin the themes of the movie.

Worrying about anything that seems 'unrealistic' in a fictional galaxy is silly in general.

  8. How is “that character could turn left and not die” the same as the bombs being magnetic? One is hilarious to watch happen because it’s so stupid and the other is someone not realizing magnet bombs are a thing.

She had no ship to get back home and her life is essentially at its’ end as she knows it. And she has seconds to react to what’s going on. I don’t think her not making the decision to run a different direction is a big deal. It didn’t even occur to me that it could be a flaw until I read other people worrying about it.

Then again, I loved the movie right away and wasn’t concerned with nitpicking it. And I’ve done that with movies or shows that annoyed me, haha

  10. She runs for a while straight ahead. Of a thin rolling object. But that’s only one of the many, many flaws in that movie, it just happens to be the most hilarious because everything else has happened and then it’s like “oh ok fine might as well kill a character this way I’m already so out on this movie.”

Eh, I always liken nitpicks like that to when a character in a horror movie goes back into the haunted house or down into the basement when it clearly is an awful decision that nobody should make. Sometimes those decisions need to be made for a movie or scene to exist. Would it make much of a difference if, say, she trips or breaks her knee and can’t crawl away fast enough? Or is left stranded on the planet to starve?

Idk, that scene is such a small thing in a great movie that I’m surprised people focus on it. Again, much like a lot of the nitpicks for TLJ that I just can’t relate to worrying about.

It’s not minor if it takes me out of the movie. Gravity bombs (or accelerated bombs or whatever) are fine because it’s a world I know nothing about. Maybe they do have those kind of bombs. A horribly inaccurate fact is going to make me raise my eyebrows however.

  15. I mean it would be better writing and not a hilariously stupid scene, so yeah I think it would make a difference if it was better written and not unintentionally funny in a supposed serious moment. But if the argument is the movie is written like a bad b-level horror movie then, sure, I can agree with that.

I think I get what he is trying to say... but this is still a “yikes”

  17. :crylaugh: one character literally rolls away like four rolls to avoid it I had forgotten that stupid movie and now I’m laughing all over again

Sure, I see what you mean. I disagree clearly, haha, but I hear ya

I don’t want to derail this thread anymore than I have about Prometheus, I talk about it a lot starting here if you want to see some of my points: https://forum.chorus.fm/posts/2785072

I thought Prometheus was okay. I’m not really an Alien guy, so whatever.

  20. Heh, I’ll read it. I truly hate that movie (and the next). One of the few I can say that about.

  23. This press tour has felt like disaster after disaster after disaster. They’re gonna tell me Rey is a Luke/Palpatine hybrid clone sooner or later and I’ll be like “that’s not even the dumbest thing that’s happened this week.”

the first half of prometheus is pretty solid. it could have been really great but it totally fell apart. the "worldbuilding," which is often what damon does best, is pretty solid in the first half. jason is 100% spot on about the action stuff though lol
