The disposal of Snoke i was totally fine with. could it have been interesting to know more about him? sure, but i'm okay with it. number of my friends hate that he was off'd though. but the follow up to this moment has something that i didn't like. i loved him being disposed of, but there's a weird moment where his bottom half slides off the throne or something. it felt like a weird thing to play for laughs. i only mention this because it's an example of some moments i don't love in TLJ and probably won't come around to. the blue milk cow thing is another weird one haha, and the "put on a shirt" moment. but none of these detract from the film for me. sure i'm not a fan of the choices, but they're small and the rest of the film and what i do love outweighs everything.

only big moments i still can't really wrap my head around is leia flying in space. if anyone wants to help me with that, feel free haha. i lovvvve the score in that moment, but the moment itself, idk. and the other is just that i feel like the sacrifice should have been akbar or someone we already had a history with. Holdo i would have enjoyed more time with perhaps. but again, even though i don't know that i feel much for Holdo's sacrifice, the way they film that, the cinematography and the sound (or lack there of), wow.

Point is, i could nitpick or pull things out, but if they ultimately don't affect my love and enjoyment of a film, why hang on to it.

I still would’ve loved Ava DuVernay on IX, though getting New Gods from her & Tom King will probably be better.

TLJ focused on exactly what it should have focused on. Throwing the knights in that story just for bullshit fan reasons would've been a mess. It's ok to have more things to explore in the next movie why do SW fans not understand this

some dickhead near me at work just said "it would be funny if IX flops so hard that this trilogy moves to legends and is no longer cannon."

    wut?

"Abrams credits the storytelling risks of Johnson’s “The Last Jedi” for helping show him the need to continue to be bold in “The Rise of Skywalker.” As Abrams puts it, “Rian helped remind me that that’s why we’re on these movies — not to just do something that you’ve seen before.”"

J.J. Abrams Says New ‘Star Wars’ Won’t Play It Safe Like ‘Force Awakens,’ Thanks to Rian Johnson

Also in the NY Times interview itself JJ also says The Last Jedi was “full of surprises and subversion and all sorts of bold choices”. I think people (on both sides of this debate) are overblowing one small quote to make it out as if JJ *HATES* The Last Jedi... when that doesn't seem to be the case at all. It leads to a bunch of nice clickbait headlines if it's made out to seem that way though ;-) Different directors will have different approaches, that shouldn't be surprising. What he said is the gentlest "critique" I can possibly imagine, and almost everything else he's said to date towards Rian has been praise.

As someone who enjoyed both TFA and TLJ a lot, if JJ really does take the best of what he did in TFA, and combine it with some bigger risks inspired by Rian (which is what he's said so far)... I'll probably really enjoy it. I think this is definitely a case of one quote being way overblown. It does seem like John Boyega has more issues with TLJ, but... actors are allowed to have different opinions on a movie they were involved in. Some of the actors in Empire at the time thought it was a mess. Who cares?

Why would Luke be the ultimate Jedi anyway? Didn’t even know about the force until he was 19. Trained for a short amount of time and didn’t even finish his training. Had a whole other life and point of view before even learning what a Jedi really is. Makes sense he wouldn’t be 100% set in their ways.

Snoke isn't the main bad guy though, just like the emperor (who if it werent for the prequels would have gotten no backstory either) wasnt the main bad guy from the OT. Kylo is the big bad/main antagonist in this new trilogy. IMO, developing Snoke would do disservice to developing Kylo. Yes Snoke is supposedly the leader of the FO and tempted Kylo like palpatine did Anakin, but to me that's all the backstory i need on Snoke. Killing him off I think was the right move.

I don’t recall my thoughts at the time exactly but I don’t think I ever cared who Snoke was or anything anyways.

Blocking out the noise from the toxicity, ungrateful and "Star Wars owes me" fandom, and clickbaity articles and YouTube videos is hard sometimes. Obviously I don't agree with any of it and I think Star Wars has been wonderful in Disney's hands, but all the negativity can be shit to see, because it's so loud and everywhere. :tear:

It would be a nice surprise if there ends up being a green lightsaber in episode IX. I miss that color and we only saw one for a minute in TLJ

Rey rebuilds Luke's lightsaber but the twist is it is with Mace's kyber crystal.
