I think I said this out loud while watching in 2016, there are just some traditions you cannot break.

I’m waiting ‘til next Tuesday at least before buying it, but it does feel more & more true. Which, if that’s how it pans out, my gosh do I have thoughts. (More good thoughts than initially expected, but man, the pressure it’ll put on future non-Skywalker Jedi films is HUGE.)
^ no specifics, but thought the one vague thought might hint at too much?

Got my ticket confirmed for next week Saturday, 11am, haha. Everything the night before was sold out. Tickets quite a lot cheaper though for this screening; only $10.25

Just to know if advance. Do we have to spoiler tag through the entire weekend or after opening day is it fair game?

I'd say Friday should be fair game, but would still spoiler tag on Thursday the 19th

Basically once it’s officially released. UK is getting it the 19th. Not sure if they have night before screenings. But basically I would say late later Wednesday here it could be possible. Then Thursday it’s out there for sure. If we are waiting for the US release, it’s Thursday night. Roughly 9pm est people will be leaving the first screenings assuming 6 is the earliest showing.

Forum policy is based on release. Thursday night is fair game to not use tags. As always, if someone wants to use them, that’s fine. But nobody should they upset about it if someone doesn’t. To be safe, anyone who doesn’t want to see non hidden spoilers should vacate Wednesday until they see it.

  10. heh, as I said in the other thread: Rian Johnson deserves better. His movie will be respected in time like it deserves.

Was about to post that. Really fucked up IMHO for JJ to do that to him.

  12. It was dumb to assign each movie to a different director in the beginning.

Agree with Jason that TLJ will be loved over time.

I really really hope it does but I just don't see that happening.

I don't like JJ's reducing TLJ to being a "meta" approach. I mean, sure, it is. But it's simultaneously reaffirming and expanding what Star Wars means and can be.

In fact, I don't like the way any of the cast talk about TLJ in that profile. "I wanted to see where that story was going". What? We saw where it went in TLJ and it was great!

I think it was smart to do the OG "Star Wars" trilogy formula of a different director for each movie. They just messed up by thinking Trevorrow was a good choice and reverting to ol' safe choice J.J.

i'm excited for Rise of Skywalker, i'm looking forward to Force Awakens in my rewatch. i honestly wasn't super stoked on Last Jedi right away, i enjoyed things in it, but left the theatre unsure. however, the star wars movie i've watched the most since TLJ released, is TLJ. something just keeps bringing me back. i love it. sure still things in it i don't like, but nothing that tears down the whole movie for me.

it does really surprise me that it seems like there wasn't an overarching story planned out. i feel like the whole trilogy really should have been worked on and written at once since it's easy for them to know they are doing a trilogy. interested to see how it all ties together.

the only cast members i think have the right to be justifiably angry about TLJ are Mark and John. Mark deserved so much more and John was really thrown to the side.

I haven’t participated in The Discourse in quite a while but ya this new wave of PR where they drag TLJ and Rian through the mud to drum up hype for TROS really sucks.

I think @Jason Tate is right, he’ll get the love and respect he deserves in time. For me TLJ is everything I wanted for Star Wars. The main series was feeling so small but TLJ really blew the door open for expanding where the story could go. I still absolutely adore the direction they took with Luke, I don’t see him as “jaded” per se but wiser with time. His speech about the Jedi being full of hubris and saying that the Force doesn’t belong to anyone was so great. I need to rewatch all of the movies here soon

What we got with Luke was INCREDIBLE in TLJ. He deserved more in TFA if anything.

Finn was a large focus in TLJ. How was he thrown aside?

  25. *whispers* Finn had more screen time than Kylo and Poe and only less than Rey and Luke.
