Thought the moment of Poe meeting Rey at the end was cool, especially since I didn't realize that didn't happen already. Had me more excited to see how they all interact together for the first time.

I think it being the first time the main 3 heroes interacting being in the third film is weird. Not having anything with all 3 until now is a missed opportunity.

Finished the prequels last night. Sith has long been my least favorite of these movies, but I have to say I had a good time with it this time around. Maybe it's because I've spent so long thinking about all the things I dislike about them that it just seemed better than expected? I think the 9% beer and glass of whiskey helped as well. The opening sequence is pretty fun, I even chuckled at some of the R2 gags. The buzz droids attacking Obi-Wan's ship are the most effective any of the battle droids have ever seemed. Though, Obi-Wan really really just gets embarrassed by Dooku in this and AOTC. How he is ever able to walk again is baffling.

Anakin & Padme still feels so forced at times, the "love has blinded scene" could have easily been cut. The following scene where he wakes from his nightmare does a much better job at making them feel like a real couple. And the scene where they seem to be force communicating with each other right before he turns is actually well-acted. That scene and the opera scene are still the best in the entire prequel trilogy.

Obi-Wan's fight with Grevious is campy but fun. Though, like most of the fight scenes in this movie, it feels too long. There's some ridiculous zoom shots in there which are probably not supposed to be funny, but I laughed. Overall, that's very I'd really put the first half of this movie, bordering so bad it's good with fun moments.

And then we get to the turn and it all falls apart again. If it were not for Anakin saying things like "from my point of view, the jedi are evil" literall minutes after he turn Palpy in, this could have worked. But his motivation shifts solely from trying to save Padme to also hating the Jedi. The Clone Wars fills in some of that motivation, but it always seems so damn jarring in the movie. I also will never like that Palps face becomes weird because of the lightning. He ages dramatically in each of these movies, so much so that it's believable that he's just decaying from the dark-side by the time we see him in ROTJ. Missed opportunity. It's also so puzzling to me that Yoda just bails. The fight seemed like a stalemate at that point. Maybe if a bunch of clone troopers had come and surrounded him after he falls, it would make sense for him to run. But he just kind of gives up.

Overall, I like it more than I thought I did, so much so that it could jump from 10th to 8th on my ranking. But doesn't stick the landing when it needs too.

I feel you. I do hope we get some good screen time with the three of them together in this one, seems hard to do in a finale though.

I was 18, and pretty dumb... but I LOVED Revenge of the Sith when it came out. Like, I saw it in theaters so many times.

I did realize it had many issues, but I did love it in the theater and loved the third act at the time.

but man, there are so many big issues with it.

maybe I just found it that much stronger than AOTC? I dunno. Looking forward to seeing how I feel when I watch it Thursday night.

Based on the trailers, I feel like it’s fine similar to ROTJ where they will go on a short mission of some sort together, then set out on the main adventure of the movie where Rey departs at some point to go for Kylo/Sheev time.

I will add that I did enjoy the 3rd act more than I usually do. When they ditch the sabers, Yoda & Sidious's fight is solid. The Mustafar, while way too long, is solid. And Obi-Wan's "I loved you" speech to Anakin actually hit home, especially after the context of Clone Wars. Also, shout out to the scene of Anakin crying after he slaughters the separatists, it's a nice touch that shows some actual conflict in him.

I agree with all the sentiment that not having all three together feels like a missed opportunity, but it doesn't really lessen my enjoyment of either movie. I do think TFA deserves just as much scrutiny there as TLJ. The way it ends, with Rey going to find Luke and Finn in a coma meant we would probably have limited time with them all together in the sequel. Having Poe disappear for almost the entirety of second act and then spending the 3rd entirely in the cockpit didn't help either.

Oh yea, my comment on the missed opportunity was for both 7 and 8.

and my enjoyment of the films wasn’t effected.

I don't think it was a missed opportunity at all. I don't really care about seeing Rey with Poe or even Finn much. I think the time she spent with Luke and Kylo was far more interesting and worthwhile.

  11. And if you actually read the full interview from the source article he goes in on those exact type of Star Wars "fans" and the toxicity, which was much more interesting and in-depth than the one line that got turned into an article for movie web.

  12. Re-watched Phantom Menace last night. An absolute train wreck of a movie where the overabundance of green screen has only gotten more noticeable and painfully bad. Tattooine is almost unrecognizable and seeing it right after Mandalorian's take makes it even more egregious.

This is the main issue I have with people posting these articles. They just take lazily repurpose someone else's work for their own gain. I'd prefer people here scan those articles for the source material and post that.

Yeah, that's been my strategy these days. Especially since the source usually isn't that hard to find hyperlinked w/in the first couple paragraphs. Sometimes I'll even share the source for an article someone else shared, in hopes of redirecting traffic to whoever actually did the original work & away from the trashy clickbait wasteland, lol.

I must now go to the source Supporter

This. This is the problem with clickbait sites. The interviews are not being conducted through their site because they weren’t granted one. Instead they mine interviews from legitimate sources for pull quotes that they know will arouse interest from a particular group of people who have opinions about the out of context quote they’re using as a bait headline. It’s disingenuous and purposely curated to steal clicks and create circular arguments like what we see in here. Do the journalists and talent a favor and cite from the original source. You’ll often find the rest of the content is well worth the read.

Review embargo until the 18th is kind of a bummer. I need something asap

The LA premiere is the 16th, which means reliable spoilers should probably be out there by this time next week.

Which, w/out rehashing dead debates (some like one approach, some like another, whatever), personally makes me happy. Let me see the possibly disappointing plot ASAP so I can accept that they did what they did & just enjoy the ride.

Just scrolled by a video titled “questions the Rise of Skywalker better answer”

I didn’t watch it, because that’s dumb and the easiest way to guarantee you won’t like the movie because they won’t be making it with your singular POV in mind. I hate the internet.

Yea, I'll be muting keywords on Twitter starting on the premier and be avoiding a lot of the internet. Maybe I'll even be productive at work as a result!

Wanting specific questions answered is such a weird way to watch movies, lol. Couldn't get my mind into that mindset if I wanted to (which, I really don't). Like, literally, my biggest concern is something I don't want answered any further but know they will: Rey's lineage.

I don't need to know anything else about her bloodline, the Knights of Ren, Snoke, how Palpatine is in the picture, etc., unless touching on one of those things just naturally happens in the story they tell. You know how much I don't know about my own life, let alone people I know in real life, let alone these fictional characters I'll have spent, like, 10 total hrs with?
