*stands on table* I... LIKE THE PREQUEL TRILOGY

Lol, I just finished ROTS and was really pleased that my childhood nostalgia wasn't tainted, I genuinely enjoyed myself watching all three of these movies. The same bad things happen in all three (dialogue and acting, though I maintain that Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman [in ROTS at least] do great jobs with what they're given), but I really like the music, action, and visuals for the most part. I'm well aware these don't touch the OT in the slightest but I really don't think they're the blight on the Star Wars legacy that some people do. In fact, my only real complaint about ROTS besides those things I mentioned is that the scene where Obi-Wan learns that Anakin has turned is WAY underplayed, that should have been a way huger deal

I might have forgotten some stuff but I also think these movies do a genuinely good job tying everything into the OT without things feeling shoehorned (other than maybe Chewbacca in ROTS and Anakin creating C-3P0)

You guys can chase me out of the thread now lol, I just think these are fun movies to watch that obviously don't match up to the originals

    Alright, here’s a question:

What’s the least amount of content someone would need to watch to have a decent understanding of episode IX?

Asking because I might take my 11 year old brother to the opening night fan event, but he doesn’t really have the time to watch the entire saga. He’s seen them all before but is in need of a quick refresher. I have my idea of what he should watch, but I wanted to hear others’ opinions.

The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, then the originals if he has time.

I mean, without knowing what they are doing with Palpatine it’s hard to say. They do claim this wraps up all 9 movies.

    maybe 3-8?

Yeah Palpatine really is the wildcard here

I’d still agree with just The Force Awakens & The Last Jedi. TFA was my sister’s first, & she loved it.

I think these films have done a good job of revealing old characters & ideas through the perspective of the new characters, so a kid only knowing what Rey, etc., know should be fine.

I told him ROTS, ROTJ, TFA, TLJ. Sith is his favorite, and I think those movies give a gist of the Emperor’s story, along with the story so far with the new characters.

I’d say ROTS, ROTJ, TFA and TLJ

I guess 3, 6, 7, and 8 is the least you could do and still get the saga view with a focus in this trilogy.

Definitely make sure he watches the theatrical RotJ, though.

Release order is definitely the way to go for first timers. After that I say chronological.

I’m going through with the gf for the first time. Decided to try 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 since I’ve never done that order before and wanted to try it.

My girlfriend had never seen any, we did 4-5-6-7-8-R1-Solo-3.

We tried Episode I a couple weeks ago and we got to the Gungan city and she asked that I turn it off, haha. Didn’t bother with Episode II.

Haha yea, as RLM pointed out back in the day it really should have been the other way around.

Just finished ROTS and Solo as part of my rewatch leading up to IX.

ROTS is bad sure, but I do have a lot of love for the Mustafar fight, and believe it or not, Yoda vs Sidious. Could be 'Duel Of The Fates' influencing the Yoda v Sidious side, but Ewan in the Mustafar scene is great. He's great in the whole trilogy. The whole Padme dying of 'losing the will to live' thing is such a lol though, like c'mon.

I do enjoy the last few minutes of this movie though, once the twins are born and how Obi-Wan takes Luke to the farm, and Vader and Sidious staring at the Death Star under construction, I always think that minute or two of the movie is great.

Going straight from this into Solo is something I'd definitely recommend. Makes Solo that much more refreshing, especially for those who place it low in their SW tier. Hearing him and Qira talk about the Empire, and their rule and power, etc. You can tell it really is a dark time in the galaxy. Also the Maul cameo is a slightly better payoff fresh off the prequels.

Rogue One tonight, can't fucking wait. Love this one heaps and haven't watched it in about 2 years.

Also, how the fuck did Chewbacca go from fighting droids on Kashyyyk with Yoda to imprisoned by the Empire in Solo?

Is there a canon story to this?

Not that I know of. Beyond that we know that the Empire took over Kashhyyk and enslaved Wookies. I don’t think there is a specific story of Chewie’s capture or anything unless it’s a comic.

I've never seen any of the shows or anything outside the movies, I think once Rise of Skywalker is out on Blu-Ray I'm gonna do a REAL watchthrough and try to include those. Is it just Clone Wars and Rebels that's canon?

Just did Rogue One on my rewatch.

So glad I haven't overplayed this one to death. The second there's the alliance meeting where Jyn initiates the rogue rebels to go to Scarif, the movie turns magical.

Even though we all knew the outcome going in, it still feels like the stakes are so high. The space battle is the best in any SW film (IMO) and the score and emotion of the whole last 30 minutes or so just elevates this movie so much.

I'm moving it up on my list. I adore it.
