I wouldn't want a crawl post Episode IX. Let that, the John Williams scores, etc., end here. Fully commit to moving on to a new era of Star Wars films.

Just tried to watch solo for the first time due to star wars hype! I hate it!

I don’t recall if they did for TLJ, but I remember them showing clips for TFA, RO, and Solo on Kimmel so I don’t think it’s super unusual.

there's almost no context to that though. that tweet was pretty clearly created to get clicks and generate buzz in the replies.

True, while Kennedy does state they took a lot of notes, there isn't any specification as to what the notes were about. This does however show they worked more closely with Lucas with ROS compared to TFA and TLJ.

As kinda expected being that it wraps things up.

Yeah this doesn't worry me in the least. George's contributions are great when he's not behind the camera or penning the script.

I agree with this. George didn't have a bad vision but he always needed help with proper execution and when he didn't have that help it showed.

I'm currently reading George Lucas: A Life by Brian Jay Jones and it's amazing to see how much of a control freak Lucas became as time and Star Wars went on. In the pre-SW days and even while writing the original trilogy he was eager to ask for help (even if he would often override the ideas of his collaborators). By the time the prequels rolled around it was a one-man show.

I don't know how much I agree with this, it likely would come down to what specifically he's giving direction or notes for. That said, I don't immediately scoff at hearing that he has some (supposedly) significant involvement.

Rewatching all the films in prep for this.

The more I've sat with The Last Jedi the more I dislike it.

I watched an interview with Mark where he thought that Luke would catch the Saber in the snow at the end of Force Awakens, fight Kylo, and then train Rey. That would have been so cool.

I know this Lucas topic has been talked to death, but just as a reminder...

1977's Star Wars started its life as a Flash Gordon knockoff, & it only exists in its final form because of significant storytelling contributions by Gloria Katz, Willard Huyck, Brian De Palma, Paul Hirsch, Marcia Lucas, & Richard Chew. 1980's The Empire Strikes Back, the best one, was directed by Irvin Kershner from a story by Leigh Brackett, Lucas, Lawrence Kasdan, & Kershner. And, 1983's Return of the Jedi was directed by Richard Marquand from a story by Lucas, Kasdan, & Marquand.

And, both the prequel trilogy & the special editions, after Lucas' creative grip tightened, are infamously... um... let's say, rough. lol. Plus, look at some of the other projects Lucas has had creative input on since then, like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull & Red Tails.

Obviously film is an inherently collaborative medium, & I love creative collaboration. But, the weird revisionist history by unhappy fans in the Disney era makes no sense, especially considering what the popular consensus was about him for years before that.

If I were tasked w/ making Episode IX, I'd honestly probably have a long meeting w/ him beforehand, too, just out of respect & curiosity, but I honestly wouldn't give much special consideration to his opinions on things while crafting the best story that I could tell.

It has had the complete opposite affect on me. Started TLJ again last night and I like it more everytime I see, I even love the canto stuff.

I don't know if I can ever like the Canto stuff...

Everything with Rey, Kylo and Luke are great. I just cant get behind the weird slow chase scene and the Canto.

It would have completely undercut Rey’s story and arc.

I totally get having the thought. And it’s been a common thought since the movie came out. And it’s one that I think would have been a mistake. These movies are about the next generation. I am so so so so glad it was Rey.

  18. I’ve yet to read a fan or George or Mark story change that’s good.

I respect that, I just think it would have been good for her character to fail in that fight like Luke in Empire. If Luke could have shown up and gotten them out of there, away from Kylos rage. then Luke and Rey going to train on Luke’s exile planet

Nah. Her fully trusting the force and it being the source of her power and win over an overly confident Kylo is more interesting than a Jedi master whooping his former student.

Man, people are apparently bitching about the bike in that clip having treads.

Yet no one yelled about it for chapter two of the Mandalorian and it’s sand crawler WITH treads.

    I hate people.

I'm totally okay with George giving out creative ideas. I think Clone Wars showed that he can help create a good story. But he definitely needs others around him to take those ideas and form them into a coherent narrative. I don't think that happened at all during the prequels. All the behind the scenes footage makes it seem like he was surrounded by yes men.

The Rey/Kylo/Finn fight will always be one of the most beautiful scenes in the Star Wars franchise.

I know it shouldn't, but the "Finally, this is real Star Wars crowd" is hurting my enjoyment of the show a bit. It's pretty telling that they all seem to shit on Kennedy when they don't like something and give her zero credit when they do.
