Get the SW franchise back on track??? If “Solo” is truly the worst thing to come out of SW, i thinkkkk they’re doing just fine. My god with these articles.

Let people view IX as whatever they wanna view this as. If it's good, I'll be happy, whatever it is.

And, even in a world where IX somehow undoes what TLJ did for this world (which I don't think is possible outside, like, changing Rey's lineage or whatever), we'll always have TLJ itself in our libraries and lives, so whatever.

I think the implication is that episode IX is expected to bring back the viewers that Solo may have turned away. Maybe it will be closer to formula?

I would hate for them to feel the need to make a safe movie just to win back fans who went into Solo with their minds made up already

I would too but I also don’t run a business that lost millions on Solo so I’m speaking only from the view of a fan. Lucasfilm is still under Disney and Disney cares more about money than creative integrity. As soon as something looks slightly wrong in the cash flow Disney tends to get skeptic.

  8. I’ve never seen an article from Comicbook.com that I’ve liked how it’s written. They feel like the AltPress of the movie/comic world. Just re-writing things to seem a little more drama packed than they really are to chasing every random rumor as fact.

The only course correction they need to take is to get on the same page as their directors before filming is almost completed, or is actually done. The shame about 'Solo' to me is that if they hadn't basically shot (and paid for) two movies, what you see on screen should have been pretty modestly budgeted by today's blockbuster standards, more along the lines of say a 'Riddick' than a 'John Carter'. What's on screen is not a $250 million picture. I still think the entire idea of a Han Solo origin story is almost exactly *not* the type of film they should be making with the spinoffs with such a rich universe full of potential stories to tell. Hell, even a movie with the same vague story beats not centered around a character we already know would have been much better. Throw in a one scene Ahlden & Donald as Han & Lando cameo at a card game or something if you really insist on shrinking the universe down / callbacks to the OT.

I am going to remain optimistic until I see Episode IX for myself, but I very much hope they are not going to let fear drive them to remake 'A New Hope' and 'Force Awakens' again for a third time. There had best not be a goddamned f---ing Death Star at the end of this movie is all I'm saying. I don't care if it's the size of a f---ing galaxy this time.

I am also hoping that The Knights of Ren show up and are cool and that they and Kylo do some awesome bad guy stuff honestly just because I think 'Knights of Ren' is a cool sounding term.

TFA could honestly be my favorite Star Wars movie if they had just resisted the urge to do another death star.

The funny thing about Solo is that even though it was very by the book/checking boxes kind of film, it actually makes me want to see a Solo sequel because of that. Now that they got all the "this is how he got the falcon, this is how he met chewie, etc" stuff out of the way, they could show us new stories with those characters.

Anyway, I'm still pretty confident JJ is going to give us a solid third entry to this trilogy.

For me, I really think my enjoyment is going to boil down to what story they decide to tell. I am fully confident that JJ Abrams can direct the hell out of a movie in a fun and exciting way. Kathleen Kennedy has shown she can produce a quality picture a few times by now. Come on Chris Terrio!!! Don't drop the ball!!!

TFA is still my favorite Star Wars film even though there is basically another Death Star threat. I can watch it repeatedly and enjoy it.

TLJ reaction is still the most baffling movie related thing. Such a great movie and I cannot wrap my mind around the hate it gets. It's a top three star wars movie imo and I may like it even more once we see how it all concludes. People are weird imo

There will probably never be any way of knowing for sure, but I believe that a fully Gareth Edwards directed, non-reshot-and-restructured by Tony Gilroy Rogue One would have jumped The Last Jedi in my personal rankings. I am absolutely in love with the man's shot compositions and framing and the way he plays with size and scale, just everything about how he shoots his footage. I do not think he is on the level of Stanley Kubrick, but the feeling I get watching what he does with the camera is akin to the feeling I get watching Kubrick films.

I could be dead wrong and his version of the film was a steaming turd.

(Updated to add TFA. I blanked and totally forgot it.)

People talk about Force Awakens doing New Hope, which sure, but not by that much more than Return of the Jedi & Phantom Menace. The extreme "ring theory" crowd is silly and takes it WAY too far. But, it's true that this repetitive structure has been part of the franchise's DNA since its third theatrical release.

And Rouge One is great. I was 50/50 on it when I watched it in cinemas but it quickly became one of my favorites. It’s how I imagined a modern day OT would feel.

I'll be honest, I really struggled with that myself - but I have watched ROTJ dozens and dozens of times over the years and watched TFA once and partially again and have not really felt the need to revisit it.

In fairness to TFA, I was a little kid that watched tons of movies and loved Star Wars and now I am an adult with kids who only watches maybe 2-3 non children's movies a year at this point.

For the record, I consider everything from #7 and above to be great movies.
