Just watched Rogue One again tonight - still holds up as the best Star War of the whole saga

Darth Vader as his red light saber lights up in the dark hallway after he's boarded the rebel ship - one of the best scenes in the entire saga

 

Honestly kinda disappointed Kylo is back to wearing his dumb helmet.

 

I’m torn...

I liked the visual of the helmet. I always thought it was a great design. But I do like him smashing it in TLJ after being mocked/scolded by Snoke.

What will help me decide is if they give any sort of reasoning for it in the movie. I don’t need a whole conversation about it. Just something to explain it. Like if he remakes it to fully embrace the Darkside and wants to hide in it in a way. Or I dunno. I need some context to it.

 

Probably shouldn't revive this conversation, but as someone who really doesn't care about being "spoiled" & gets frustrated when dorks act like cops over non-spoilers & post-release spoilers...

Leaks (even those typically unreliable rumors that surround films like this) aren't fair game w/out spoiler tags pre-release. Also, if someone wants to go above & beyond in avoiding spoilers, & does so by respectfully bowing out of a thread instead of trying to police it, that is the adult response.

I personally don't find that kinda "going in blind" approach appealing at all, but as long as people aren't dicks about it, just let 'em be, y'know?

 

Anyways, as for Kylo's helmet... Even if they explain it, it's definitely narratively a bad choice, or at least a lame one. But, like, so was what the Russos did w/ Thor post-Ragnarok, & I still dig those two separate arcs that don't really mesh when viewed as a whole (unless you change his Ragnarok arc into a mistake), so whatever.

Even if they give a good character motivation, it still feels obvious that JJ did it 'cause it looks cool and/or sells toys. But, it does look cool, lol, so hey. There are other TLJ details (like Rey's parentage) that I'm more concerned about than the helmet, lol.

 

i agree with your point, generally. i also think people in here were being bafflingly pre-mature, given literally no one in this thread was discussing the contents of the leaks, outside whether they “like” it or not, which is the most surface-level analysis possible.

 

I’m not even trying to go in blind. I’ll watch the officially released trailers and all that. I just don’t want see things that the people making the movie chose to remain a surprise. Will it ruin the movie? Of course not. But seeing things for the first time on the big screen is a lot of fun.
