I think the new trilogys got enough good ideas to be considered classics with time

    You misspelled "tier one."

  3. Maybe in time. It needs cultural impact of even half Empire’s size to make me think about that.

The only impact that matters to me is the impact on my heart & soul. :miles::spiderman::heart::100:

They said that about past planets, but I don’t know if IX counted in that.

Not to be arrogant, because art is art and it's so subjective, but I will never understand why people would think the MCU is even comparable to Star Wars.

I mean that in defence of SW, not the MCU. In my mind they're not even in the same league.

I mean someone else could say they don’t see how MCU/Star Wars blockbusters are even comparable to auteur or arthouse films. And I’d roll my eyes at them.

I think ANH and Empire are all time great films but Black Panther is great, too, as is Guardians, and if you look at the properties as a whole, you get the prequels and Solo, which make up 4 of the what, 10 Star Wars movies? Which makes almost half of the Star Wars movies fall below most MCU movies. It’s really not an unimaginable gulf in quality.

I’m not a big fan of the MCU, either, I think it’s mostly not good, but like any genre or studio, it has some standouts. Just like Star Wars.

Even though I'd agree with most of that, I think the peaks of Star Wars are on a whole other level that I can't imagine anything related to the MCU reaching.

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse though so I'll try and cut back, haha

I think Black Panther, Guardians 1, and the first Avengers will be regarded highly for their genre in cinematic history. That doesn’t mean they’re as good as OG Star Wars, or even TLJ (though I may, may give an edge to Black Panther versus TLJ, I think some people over simplify that movie because it’s MCU).

But I do think the MCU’s storytelling model has overwhelmingly stunted the quality of their movies, all in service of Infinity War, which was straight up bad, and Endgame, which, who knows. So the very select few films they let stand apart and have strong directorial voices (BP, Avengers, Guardians, Thor 3) end up being the strongest, while the rest are varying degrees of fine to bad. Star Wars has only run into that problem in their side stories movies, it’s admirable how unrestrained TLJ was and, even though I don’t like his work, how very “JJ Abrams” TFA felt.

No love for Mission Impossible 3 or the first Star Trek?

I enjoyed the first Star Trek. MI:3 is bottom two in the franchise. A really good franchise, I’ll say that, but yeah, I just don’t like most of his work.

That means you rank it down at the bottom with MI 2. That hurts lol :tear:

In my defense I tried to change the topic back to Star Wars with a possible opening. Didn’t work though lol

As long as shes still not tied to another Force user, I definitely want her to get more info on her parents.
