This might be a dumb question but how aware of all the story elements are you? When watching them in chronological order, certain beats in the original trilogy lose some impact. But considering how huge Star Wars, I assume you pretty much already know everything and it won’t really matter all that much.

I know a little bit. I know nothing of EP 7. I've seen Rogue One.

I’d go with the machete orde if you’re committed to watching all of them that’s: 4,5,1,2,3,6,7.

    Hmmm.

Well, you could watch him as they were released, 4,5,6,1,2,3,7 but I think the order some people suggest is 4,5,2,3,6,7 as it basically provides one fluid story without sacrificing any plot twists; completing omitting episode 1 cause it’s almost nonessential. It’s not a huge deal but I personally do not recommend watching them in chronological order. To be honest, you wouldn’t even need the prequel trilogy at all to understand anything in 7 but if you’re gonna watch Star Wars you might as well see it all. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Also, and this is where things get complicated and I dunno how much work you wanna put into this, but you can download what is called the “despecialized” version of the original trilogy, which is basically the version to watch. I case you’re not aware, George Lucas has been tinkering with the home releases of the original trilogy for years and nearly every addition is just so dumb. But I understand if you don’t wanna put forth the effort to download that

What spot would you guys put Rogue One in if you were doing a marathon of all the movies? If you’re doing chronological order, I suppose that’s an easy question. But if you’re doing a machete style, that’s tricky.

  7. We recently did a watch of all the movies (no prequels) and started at RO. I thought it worked pretty well to go from that right into ANH. Although, it is funny when they lie to Vader right at the beginning because you know he's like, "mother fucker, I JUST SAW YOU LEAVE, I CUT DOWN ALL YOUR ASSES."

I think RO->TFA is a fun watch (de-specialized versions of the OG). 5 movies of awesome and no prequels. I loved it and that's probably how I'd go. For someone that has never seen the OG trilogy, I'd go that. Then go back to RO to see how it starts, and then finish with TFA probably. I don't know if I'd wanna have a newbie start with RO for their first Star Wars.

I'm a proponent of never wasting valuable hours of one's life span on a prequel rewatch.

But, if you really wanna be a completionist, and you're also committed to machete order, I think Rogue One fits the best at the beginning. Start with the rebellion without much clear Force talk, then go into Luke's journey. Seems like it'd have a strong thematic flow.

I think Rogue One is an awful place to start for a new fan. It is fun once you’ve seen it all, but if you start there as a new fan you won’t appreciate it as much or get all the references.

I think you can watch Rogue One and enjoy it on its own, but it won’t hit as hard that way as it would if you’ve seen the original 6.

For me it would go Original trilogy, prequel trilogy, rogue one, and then watch the sequel trilogy

I played episodes 1-6 in that order earlier this year and I can't believe how bad the prequels have aged. Like yeah I know everyone talks about that online but seeing it for myself for the first time since I was a child was crazy

‘Twin Suns’ and ‘Zero Hour: Parts 1 & 2’ in Season 3 are so good! Can’t wait for Season 4.

I'll be the one person here who says I don't hate the prequels ha. They are not good movies, but there are parts of the films I do like. Duel of Fates is so good. Love Ewan and Liam. The romance is very terrible tho ha. Who doesn't want to see R2-D2 fly around with his rockets ;-p

Hopefully Fandago doesn't crash again tonight

I think I enjoy the prequels for the world building aspects. Dialogue, acting, and some story elements were trashhhhhhhh

Will be working off of my wife and I's phones to get tickets. Only devices that can reasonable access the internet, as my daughter's Kindle Fire is trash, and my wife's 2010 Macbook has also become antique.

you cant start fresh with RO because I feel like so much of RO is just enjoying nods to ANH or other movies in the original trilogy. There's so many things you're just expected to know and pick up on, that I don't believe RO can be truly enjoyed to full potential if it's the first one you see.

also, every time I watch RO i love it more and more. Maybe a top 3 SW film for me right now.

    I'd now watch them 4,5,1,2,3,6, RO, 7. I'll defend 3 a lot - 1 and 2 I mostly force myself through.

when we did the full re-watch ahead of TFA release, we did Phantom and Clones in one night just because we knew that was the only way we would watch them was if we just forced it all on ourselves at once and laughed the whole way through lol

I do enjoy a lot of EP3 but not anywhere near enough for it to move out of my bottom 3 ranking.

also your order is how we did it as well, it seemed to make the most sense (as we had a noob watching with us as well), let them find out DV is lukes father (which they somehow DIDNT know already) then go back and see how he came to be, then finish it off with ROTJ.

Idk where i'd put RO now, you can probably throw it in anywhere as long as you watch a new hope first.
