I was in first grade when TPM came out and my mom pulled me out of class to go see it which, if you knew my mom, would blow your mind. Totally unprecedented.

I'd give then a watch honestly, there are a few, not many, but a few decent moments.

If you've only ever read horrible things about them, they might actually be better than you expect. Don't get me wrong, they are still bad, awful movies. But I guess there's no way they could disappoint you now haha. Or just watch the Clone Wars tv series instead.

I was in 6th grade. For some reason I had a half day of school. My mom picked me up and dropped me off at the theater.

Thanks bud. Big Twin Peaks fan? Brief though it was, his scene was one of the most mesmerizing things I've seen on television in recent years

Oh yeah. Watched the original show for the first time a few months back because I heard about The Return and fell in love, but I think The Return may be even better than the original show. Never seen anything like it (except David Lynch's other works). Episode 8 in particular is something I'll never forget.

Right on! Yeah, episode 8 was unlike anything I've ever seen before, seriously incredible. You should come say hi in the Twin Peaks thread, though, it's not as active now that The Return is over :(

How could you not be excited for JJ to return when I think we can lay, at the minimum, 50% of the reasoning why Star Wars has made such a comeback?! I'm all for it.

jj is not primarily responsible for the popularity of SW or that Disney decided to throw coin at it. it was inevitable without him. the only barrier was Lucas selling the IP

I think JJ has a good share of the responsibility of the trajectory of the universe as well as giving us these fantastic new characters. He didn't do it alone, by any means, but he played a significant role and any SW fan should be grateful for his work.

well yeah at this point... after he's directed a film

but SW could "make a comeback" under nearly infinite circumstances because it's maybe the most popular IP on earth

Oh, for sure. But another director may not have done as well as him. It would have still made MAD money, but would I be as excited? I don't know.

Edit: "as well as him" meaning making a quality film with the right feel and focus on great characters.

  22. Saying a popular IP is inevitable for fan and critic success alone is silly. Unless we're talking about the obvious fan and critic darlings Superman... o wait.

idk Star Wars is a film makers franchise. It's inspired generations of film makers. Superman hasn't

I just think there's enough interest and money in the prospect of Star Wars that there's more that's critical than just having a figure like JJ direct a film. There's probably a lot of people who'd be as or more fit and interested. Which is what I've said three times now. And as we know there are droves of people behind spearheading the series' production and progression.

  24. Film makers love Donner's movie. It's referenced all the time.
