Same. (Except some of the battles in ep 1 & 3, I am so partial to Darth Maul.)

Ranking Star Wars episodes > ranking trilogies > ranking songs from a bands discography.

  3. I'm okay with the prequels existing because they lead to the clone wars series

Switch Anakin for Obi-wan. Anakin's already conflicted with joining the darkside by Episode 3. By that point, Palpatine could dismiss Maul dying (just like with Dooku) as he has found a better replacement in Anakin. Also, it was Obi-wan who helplessly witnesses Maul kill his master Qui Gon, not Anakin. So let him seek revenge. Nonetheless, Maul survives and later battles Obi-wan in the canon Clone Wars/Rebel tv series.

I honestly think there's little wrong in the story treatments. Some of the ideas were fantastic and definitely have the blueprints of great storytelling. Just the execution could've panned better. But that's another reason why I feel bad for Lucas, because he asked other directors to direct the prequels (ie Spielberg) but they refused due to the pressure of following up on such a big franchise. They all said the same thing, ‘George, you should do it!’, so he did and then he was surrounded by yes men who wouldn't challenge any brash ideas.

  5. Gonna disagree with the blueprints of great storytelling. The story was the central problem. It's flaws are amplified by the rest of the bad shit surrounding it.

Tons of bad shit and too many green screen backgrounds. Qui Gon, Darth Maul, Dooku, Padme, and even at times Obi Wan were great characters with the right aesthetic that just got squandered into pointless arcs and dialogue.

But, Duel of the Fates and the ending of III I still like a lot.

  8. Are there any good Star Wars podcasts? What's the best one?

I feel like I've had the hardest time finding one I like too... usually I listen to Collider Jedi Council (since they cover everything) and just started checking out ForceCenter.

I would avoid Rebel Force Radio, some of the hosts have said incredible stupid things... just google rebel force radio sexist. It's a bummer that stuff like that still exists in the SW community.

I haven't been listening for long, but I recall them saying something (can't recall the specifics) about a year ago that was pretty stupid, and they sincerely apologized the very next episode. To my best judgement, I feel like they make an effort to do better in that regard, which is refreshing. Of course there are plenty of other options if you'd rather listen elsewhere, just thought I'd point that out.

Steele Wars has tons of great guests. He did a live Podcast with Kyle Newman (Fanboys), always interviews Breznican after the EW articles, even has one with Nathan Hamill about what it's growing up as a Star Wars fan when Luke Skywalker is your father.

Making Star Wars' Now This Is Podcasting is great. They can tend to get a bit off track and have some pretty weird jokes but overall a wealth of Star Wars information. Can tend to get spoilery since their main dude Jason Ward is a sleuth who tends to know most of the plots of the movies before they're even released. I had a conversation about The Last Jedi with him at Star Wars Celebration and what he thinks is happening with it and I had to walk away to avoid being too spoiled by it.

Rebel Grrrl is a great feminist viewpoint on Star Wars.

Full of Sith is a very good podcast with intelligent hosts.

Old white guys afraid of change in "their" Star Wars. Not trying to start a fight, they're just not for me.

No worries, doesn't bother me a bit that that's your take. I'm gonna check out a couple of the ones you've listed, need more Star Wars podcasts. Rebel Girl and Full of Sith both sound good.

If the Rebel Girl podcast doesn't open every episode with the song of the same name by Bikini Kill, they should be ashamed of themselves.

Sorry it's actually spelled Rebel Grrrl.

It does start out with that song!

I listen to Idiot's Array and Bantha Fodder. Not sure when Jacob Tender plans to have the next BF episode, though. That's all I got for ya. I still need to check out some others, too, but we all know I listen to way too many podcasts as it is.

I really enjoy Forcecenter because they do a good job of looking at all the canon books, TV shows, and comics. As someone who enjoys the Prequels, I also like how they celebrate the good in them and don't harp on the bad while still acknowledging it's there.

I would rank TFA as number one. It's to most Star Wars to me. I know that has to do with it borrowing a lot from Hope, but even so it's the most exciting and well paced one.

But you have to admit that my LP song list was the best :-)
