There's an off camera moment where Palpatine explains how much Jedi are like sand, and that's what really sets Anakin off.

When he killed Mace Windu he was at the point of no return. He needed Sidious to save his wife's life. He killed children before when he slaughtered the tuskan raiders... So I don't see why it's always considered inconceivable to kill the jedi younglings. He had to kill them in case one of them came back to haunt them.

Sidious told him to do what must be done, show no hesitation, and no mercy. But even then, when he's slaughtering the separatists he has a clear tear on his cheek.

I don't like the prequels or clone wars movie so I have very little interest in watching clone wars haha

There's few things to get me less excited about than a show that fleshes out the plot of Attack of the Clones

I've watched Clone Wars, it's a great series and I love how Anakin was protrayed in that series. But every time I've seen the film (even post watching of Clone Wars), it's still jarring. It's cool if his turn works for some of you, but every time I watch it my brain just says "What? Nope." Palpatine even says, "yea that thing I said would save your wife, yea, I don't know how to do that right now". Why doesn't Anakin try to kill Palpatine then? A counter argument could be that he doesn't kill Palpatine because the two need to work together to find the cure for death. But then why is he talking about overthrowing Palpatine a few scenes later. How can he save Padme if he gets rid of Palpatine? Also, if saving Padme is his motivation, why does he all of a sudden want to rule his "new empire"? Because he had some random outburst earlier in the movie about how he's not the Jedi he should be and he wants more power even though he knows he shouldn't? He says these things, but they always seem to be random and not very believable. They never seem natural. It just doesn't work.

It happens in the movie at that moment because the movie needs it to happen. I've typed too many words about it now haha.

That's not really the point of the show... but okay.

I've yet to dive into either Rebels/Clone Wars but I'm looking forward to doing so

Being there was amazing for the trailer reveal. So many tears. Rian Johnson really stayed overnight with people until 3am signing things and taking pictures. Such an awesome dude.

Hey guys - I've never watched anything other than the movies. If I were interested in watching some of the other shows and stuff they have on - where should I start?

Definitely start with Clone Wars. I'd go with the chronological order viewing as well (which can be found here). Don't be discouraged by season one, it gets so much better each season. Season three in particular is where it starts to get really good. Also, as a warning, there's some Jar Jar episodes scattered throughout the series. You can skip those if you really want too without feeling lost in the rest of the show.

  13. Clone Wars is definitely worth a watch (I think I've liked Rebels more though, personally).

I would recommend Rebels over Clone Wars in terms of quality... But Rebels picks up and ends some things from Clone Wars. So it would be best to start with Clone Wars.

The Clone Wars cartoon is a great starting place, especially if you like the prequel era. The first 2 seasons can be tough at times but it's totally worth it from 3 onward. I'd suggest googling the chronological order and watching it in that way as opposed to season by season so things connect better. Rebels is great too but there's more dud episodes to me in it. I'd suggest CWs first because characters and storylines get picked up and finished in Rebels.

Books wise, Bloodline is amazing and goes in depth into Leia and and some of the politics of Force Awakens that were missing. It's set 6 years before TFA so it connects the most to this series of movies. Aftermath sets some stuff up for the new films and is interesting, but isn't that well written. Lost Stars is probably my favorite book so far. It's a star crossed lovers tale with one Rebel and one Imperial, and snakes through the original trilogy. The story and characters are great and it will make you understand how good people can still join/support the Empire.

Comics: The main Star Wars line is great. The Darth Vader series was excellent. Poe has his own series which is ok. The one I'd suggest is Shattered Empire, especially after seeing The Last Jedi trailer and the Battlefront 2 trailer, both of which seem to have strong connections to this series. It's only 4 issues and already collected into 1 trade so it's an easy find/read.

The thing I like about Clone Wars over Rebels (I really enjoy Rebels also though) is it seems to have a little more freedom. It doesn't have a typical show structure and instead is more of an anthology type series. Because of that we get to spend more time with way more characters and explore multiple genres within Star Wars.

What do you mean watching chronological instead of season by season?

They kind of player around with the timeline of episodes in the first few seasons.

It all technically kicked off with the movie, but chronologically there was an episode or two that takes place before the movie.

In order of the events according to the show timeline instead of how the episodes came out. The show aired a little out of order so the first episode to take place in the Star Wars timeline isnt the first episode of the series. It's strange and jumps around a lot at first but makes it a lot more enjoyable and easier to follow. A few people have already linked to the proper order.

  22. Clone Wars gives us Ahsoka and that alone makes it worth it.

Ooo I think we need to discuss Rebels. I already did it for a podcast, but just in general haha. I don't mind discussing it more.
