But retreating in a competend fight. If someone was swinging punches at you and you were swiftly dodging them (all the whilst backing up) are you not avoiding their attacks and therefore competently fighting? Sure, you can argue he had the upperhand whilst being on the offense but then Rey got the best of the fight?

So Rey fought back to essentially "win" the fight, yet you think she didn't fight competently? Who got injured?

This is a giant mess and I don't care enough to untangle it. I'm done.

This is one of the most iconic original Star Wars movie poster yet it doesn't even have Han Solo on it. Posters have a role in marketing, but they're not everything - especially in today's world.

But that does remind me of the Chinese poster where they greatly reduced Finn's presence and removed Poe & Chewie. What were they thinking? lol.

They didn't really push the "scavenger" background as the reason she knew her way around the Falcon though. What did she really know better about it than Han? Just how to fix the compressor on the hyper drive really. It's not like she kicked him out of the pilot's seat for gross incompetence. She fixed one thing.

Not really. Many people view the fight in the same manner - often arguing Rey is a "mary sue" overpowered character. It's open to interpretation. If you can't discuss that civilly without belittling others, then yeah, maybe you're best done.

  8. There it is. lol, I knew that was coming.

It's almost like there is nothing new to this "discussion".

  10. If anyone throws out Max Landis they're getting booted for a while from the thread, just a forewarning

Do we even have to say his name? That creep probably has a google alert set up to see if people are talking about him.

Come on it's clear Kylo wasn't trying to kill her before she tapped into the force he wanted to turn her to the dark side. Much like Vader v luke in empire.

Holy shit I never realized Han isn't on the original Star Wars poster and I've been looking at it for most of my life

  14. I think I most associate this one with the movie, since it was the one I grew up seeing the most:

Rey was on her back foot the entire first half of the fight. She's jabbing clumsily and swinging like she still had her staff because that's what she's used to. She was pretty much running away from Kylo the entire time until she finally tapped into the Force.

Ah yeah you're probably right. I have the one posted earlier without him framed in my basement though lol

Yea, plus Snoke specifically tells Kylo to "bring her to me".

Kind of random, but happened yesterday. Was talking with a friend of mine who considers himself somewhat of a film buff. He is a fan of the prequels and argues that the only reason they are hated on is because of "revisionist history". He says there are videos are people coming out of the theater when they first saw it saying how great it was, that it got good reviews, that the CGI was years ahead of its time and would be looked back on as a hallmark moment for the industry, etc. Hating it "became cool" and he blames those "dumb reddit reviews" as a part of this so called revisionist history lol

I haven't seen the prequels in probably 10 years but I always enjoyed them besides Jar Jar and the Anakin/Padme romance parts. Maybe I'll include them in my rewatch this year before 8 and see if they hold up for me

If anything the revisionist history is happening now with people claiming that the prequels are now good because "TFA is the worst Star Wars movie ever". I don't know how anybody with eyes and ears can think this but it's an opinion that's out there.

Maybe, just maybe.... Speaking for myself, maybe when I saw Phantom Menace at 12 I liked it because I was 12. Maybe as I grew up and learned more and understood life more, just maybe my world view grew and changed. It's almost like an evolving world view would change how I view things and change how and why I enjoyed other things.

    Just a thought.

Edit: this post is super snarky, but obviously it's aimed at your friend haha

I've heard this before (at least of people coming out of the theater raving about it) and do remember, at least ROTS, getting decent reviews.

Counterargument: the initial positive reaction was moreso based on the excitement of it being the first "new" Star Wars movie.

And then, yeah, over time everyone realized the initial excitement had colored the perception.

My positive reaction to the prequels was because I was a little kid. If a movie with that horrible of acting came out now I'd walk out of the theatre.
