I’m just so here for all of this.

The joy I get seeing people lose their minds over TLJ is so unexpected.

I just love the idea of this guy seeing TLJ, and then walking out the theater going “you know what, in retrospect, the Ewoks didn’t do it for me. I mean, what the hell was that? And really? Another damn Death Star? How redundant. And Luke and Leia are related? Give me a break.”

  6. I don't know what Luke did for 28 years, but in year 30 he was ruined, so fuck ROTJ!

Cant remember exactly but i feel like initially you weren’t too into the movie but glad to hear you at least love the visuals and action.

I also agree TFA structure/flow is much better and the lightsaber throw is grating to me.

The “allure” of Snoke is a good way to put that dynamic and I agree. I don’t agree at all with some saying TFA gave us things that invited to speculate on his past. But he is more intriguing and given more in the first two movies than the emperor. The scars. The huge inferiority complex holo. The great design/CGI/performance by Serkis in TLJ. Shown with the most power we’ve seen in any of the movies imo. He was really well done and I understand ppl are bummed because I am too to a degree. I really wanted an epic space wizard battle between luke and snoke. A la Voldemort v dumbledore in TOOTP.

That said there are literally a thousand possibilities of awesome fan pleasing things they could’ve done but what’s more important in my opinion is the characters and the messages they convey. Snoke is the same embodiment of evil character we get with Voldemort, Sauron, the emperor, fire lord ozai, frieza, Scar, etc...

While they make great antagonists, it really doesn’t hold much emotional or thematic weight in my opinion. There’s no depth. The good guys beat the bad guys and save the day. You can definitely rationally argue that they could’ve given more to Snoke but I think Kylo is infinitely more compelling of a character thematically. As rian has said his main objective was that he wanted to see his type character in the highest position of power and that wouldn’t have worked if Snoke was still around. Episode 9 would be the same old team up with the bad guy to defeat the bigger bad guy.

I’ve said this before but Kylos archetype almost always goes good and gets redeemed in some shape or form. Hes shown to have ambivalence to the dark side. He’s “being torn apart”. He doesn’t shoot Leia. He thought Luke was going to kill him which is why he’s Kylo Ren. He develops a friendship with Rey. He’s not just a monster. And the fact that despite all that rian subverted that archetype to put this ambivalent but temperamental character as the supreme leader is way more compelling
and interesting to me than just seeing another awesome villain.

I’ll admit I wish we had more of kylo/snoke/ the first order ideology, but I love where we are at. Also not saying you don’t like kylo or that dynamic or anything, just talking about the snoke thing in general.

Him: “I just liked it better when my white male protaginasts were infallible. It ruins Luke to show him failing.”

Also him: “Rey is too good at everything. What a ‘Mary Sue’. I hate her.”

The extreme backlash to this movie is fascinating to me. I feel like I could write an entire essay looking into the minds of the people who are personally offended The Last Jedi. Ironically enough, the backstory that led to this behavior and mindset as a full grown adult is more interesting than learning Snoke's backstory.

For sure, this movie is flawed and there's real reasons not to like it. But, I'll never understand the whole "this ruined my childhood" sentiment with this or anything (I've certainly used that phrase as hyperbole before, but never seriously). These people act like Rian Johnson personally interviewed them before writing the script and asked them everything they wanted, then did the opposite and had the credits open up with "Fuck you! Yes, you personally! I'm here for YOUR Star Wars!"

Most of the movies flaws are minor enough or a small enough part of the movie that it doesn't bother me. I feel like at worst, it's equal to Return of the Jedi. Which in my opinion is a good, not great movie. And well, there's nothing wrong with that haha. Maybe that's another thing that has elevated the criticism. Expectations were absolutely ski high for this movie and for a lot of people it isn't the Empire beating or matching movie they wanted. That doesn't mean it's bad though. Or ruining your childhood.

Like if you hate it, it's literally fiction. It doesn't really exist haha. Make up your own head cannon or write your own fan fiction of what happened to Luke after episode VI. It's fine.

My post wasn’t directed at yours, rather all the articles and earlier posters who claimed it was a flop during its second week and that Rian Johnson’s career was over.

That said, every movie that doesn’t have VinDeisel or some shit in it flops in China, so uhhh, you win I guess.

I like seeing people just straight up hate the film too, especially when it’s from people that praise the sequels lol. I don’t understand how some people can hate it. Even though it’s flawed it was still good.

    Just a friendly reminder

I wish I could meet every single person who has posted a melodramatic treastise on how the Last Jedi ruined Star Wars, and subsequently their lives, face to face so I could call them a dork and just laugh and laugh. I'm not usually this cruel and petty but it would be fun.

Lol that’s funny the 4th view was also my favorite but mostly because I didn’t go with any of my friends I think and didn’t have to defend the movie after.

The first viewing I was shaking the majority of the time and I think i might have held my breath for the entire two and half hours. I was a little too excited

    Round 5. Here we go.

First time since I bought the soundtrack and excited to really focus on the score and see where my favorite parts are.

The more I stew on TLJ, the more I like the movie.

However, the minuscule parts I didn't like do feel a bit heavier.

I would definitely see it again, regardless.
