Did we see those speeders fire lasers in the movie? I didn’t and had no idea why they were even charging when they didn’t have any guns. Guess that answers that

I think they were waiting to get in range, but then Poe realized that wasn’t gonna happen.

We see Finn's guns being ruined by the battering ram cannon and melting away, which is what makes him decide to try and Kamikaze the cannon.

    - Rey will beat Kylo. This is Star Wars afterall. Maybe she won't kill him but he will lose.
    - I don't know how Leia will be worked in. A death would be easiest but they will just digitally put her in a diminished role most likely
    - Finn or Poe will die. Probably the latter.
    - Rey will start a new jedi academy
    - Other star systems? Maybe they'll introduce more aliens too /s

I just have this idea that a time jump would be the best...start with Leia’s funeral, which brings all leaders of planets that didn’t respond to their call. Build in a little bit of politics, some new interesting characters and motivations for their fight again the first Order. Would give the story some forward momentum I believe that would be logical and expand the current trilogy a little bit. We’d also see the legend of Luke Skywalker have an impact, and can gear up quicker for the end-game for these characters “trilogy”.

I would really be down for this. Probably the most tasteful way you could handle Carrie passing away between films.

Maybe you could say Leia couldn't stand to exist without Luke. Like maybe...she "lost the will to live" or something.... Ha. Just kidding.

I just like the idea that she passes off screen, but in her death she becomes a major factor in the unification and creation of a new “republic”.

And I just like that because the characters learned the lessons they needed to in TLJ. It would give the audience some satisfaction in the fact that our heroes are just that: ordinary people who go through extraordinary circumstances to become leaders who learned from their mistakes to be the best versions of themselves they can be. I could elaborate my thoughts on what a good plot line for each character could be but as I said before, this is only my current interpretation. I’m so open and ready for what they cook up next.

Sucks because I don't think there's a win/win situation with it. They're not going to use CGI for her, and I think having her die off-screen between films is the best route, even though you know people are going to get upset about it. But then it's SW and this film proved that people will get upset about any aspect of a SW film.

Well, no, I don't think there will ever be a win-win from an actress passing away but I know what you mean lol

I think they can still do something great without her and write it in a way that completely works, but yeah, just unfortunate that she didn't get to have that larger role they wanted for her.

Whereas I thought Finn was a great part of the first movie, and truly had a great character arc in TFA (probably my favorite next to Kylo), in TLJ he felt kind of wasted. His personality seemed a bit different to me. Might’ve been dialogue issues, idk. I expected a lot more for him and Phasma. Would’ve been better if Phasma altogether was saved for something else in the third. She was really shoehorned in there.

Wow, that was worded super poorly on my part damn. I was referring to the fan reaction to whatever direction Disney decides to take, which will piss someone off inevitably.

Finn's plot line with Rose and all that wasn't a waste of time because, if you view this as a movie and not a series of Jedi moments, and if you think about the themes of the film, he had just as much significance as Rey did.

Phasma should've been the overarching antagonist and the main narrative drive for Finn in this trilogy. I expected them to have another duel in TLJ where Finn finds out she's alive and subsequently gets his ass handed to him by her, and the 3rd movie would be about his wanting revenge against her and their final confrontation.

Basically it's also what should've happen with Obi-wan and Darth Maul in the prequel trilogy. For every good villain of this franchise there's also a completely wasted one.

yes I'll really miss the stormtrooper whose only redeeming quality was the color of their armor

I hope Kylo gets his shit together and dominates this next movie.

haha I knew what you were getting at! I was just messing with you. But yeah, I think they'll probably come up with something that works and isn't what we expected, but you're right. There will inevitably be the crowd that hates it before they even see it so the solution won't even really apply to them.

Phasma is this trilogy's Boba Fett/Darth Maul: A villain with a cool aesthetic who wasn't a good character but has a big following simply due to that aesthetic coolness.

Though, out of those three characters, I'd say Phasma easily had the best potential. I wouldn't call how she was used in TLJ a flaw of this film per se, since I don't think this story needed more of her, but it does thus far feel like a misstep for the overall trilogy.

i would love a Jedi Academy trilogy with a more kid friendly tone that progressively picks up an edge the way the Harry Potter series did so well

  20. They can do a lot of cool stuff with Kylo with how this last movie ended.

In his final shot, he looks lost and heartbroken. Disappointed that he was willing to make bold decisions (killing Snoke) to start from scratch and find his place.

He begs Rey to join him because they'e both just as confused, they have that in common, but Rey chooses to not "let the past die" and you can see Kylo is heartbroken over this.

I hadn't noticed that until my second viewing. I hope in the next movie he's not the typical fully realized big bad. I want to see him dealing with this sort of betrayal from Rey and still keep that childish, impulsive attitude. It really makes him stand out as a villain.

I only like Phasma in Galaxy of Heroes. She’s a solid lead on an all FO team.

I've thought a lot about something similar in the comic book movie world. People get too hyped about R-rated movies when, really, live action movies adapting stuff like Spider-Man, Power Pack, Champions, Gotham Academy, and Legion of Superheroes could be just as great for expanding the genre.

yep, especially if you strike gold with a young actor there because then you have their whole lives to tell stories with them.

Phasma was cool looking, but I won't be mad if she doesn't show up again. I'm fine with how she was used in the one, but there were definitely missed opportunities with her in these first two films. She could have been the Storm Trooper Finn fights in TFA. I think a little cat and mouse game with her showing up on Canto Bight could have built more tension for the final fight. Still, I don't think there would even be discussion over this if she wasn't pushed in the marketing so much.

I think this is a good point. She's got a bunch of toys and figures for someone who has such little screen time. I also think the way they introduced her right away in TFA sort of set a tone, making us think she was maybe Kylo's right hand woman, when really she barely got any time in the story to develop.
