worth noting that the 3D for this movie seemed more pointless than most. i rarely do 3D and haven't in years, and if it weren't for the glasses I would have forgotten it was 3D at all for most of the film

Weird I thought it was really tasteful and well done and added to the epicness.

Still would’ve preferred a 2D screening since wearing sunglasses indoors is dumb.

yeah, idk. i'm definitely someone that can enjoy 3D from time to time but i really felt like i was watching a slightly darker 2D film. i also have one of those poor man's IMAX screens that is IMAX in branding alone so i might not have gotten the best shake of it

i'm always of the opinion that 3D is gimmicky and not worth the price hike, but the 4D Motion theater experience for this movie was really fun. For anyone who has been, it literally felt like being on the Star Wars ride in Disney Hollywood Studios for 2.5 hours.

Haha yea most likely not. Even if somebody doesn’t have a good reason, they can’t detach from that whatever visceral feeling they got from that moment or whatever.

Doesn’t help when people are conditioned to find the bad in everything. On top of that it doesn’t help that Star Wars fans get so attached to their theories and egos. On top of that it doesn’t help that fans are attached to movies and characters and a mythology that have been around for decades.

What’s funny is I think another theme of TLJ whether it just comes from the letting go/killing the past stuff is division. The light saber split in half. The Supremecy (appropriate name) got split in half (aptly by Laura Dern). Snoke gets cut in half. There’s a civil war within the resistance. There’s a division between running away/survival and attacking head on/sacrifice. Having a rich bloodline and coming from nothing. The positive and negative aspects of heroes and legends.

Theres a “good” and “bad” to both sides. That’s why there’s a divisiveness to it all. Taoism is literally the backbone of the entire movie and its why TLJ is not only my favorite SW movie but one of my favorites of all time. Now this movie has seem to cause a split Star Wars fans and caused division. Unintended obviously. But nevertheless very poetic that it did.

i don’t think either side is right or wrong personally. That’s art. But like Rey and kylo are two sides of the same coin as well, all that matters is how we choose to act. How we choose to talk to eachother. Both characters have gone through a lot of bad shit. But you can be like Kylo and choose to hate because of it or be like Rey and choose kindness in spite of the horrible shit you’ve been through. To walk towards the throne after killing snoke or choose to check on your friends. Be unbalanced and throw temper tantrums and live in a sad pessimistic mindset (like many who hate the movie are doing) or to live in a hopeful optimistic frame of mind. To want to destroy/sacrifice everything and start a new order or to keep the Rebellion and the Jedi Order alive despite them both failing miserably.

To not fight what we hate. To save what we love. *mic drop*

    *pick mic back up*
I’m sorry a lot of my posts end up being these long melodramatic essays. I just love this movie so damn much.

    *gently place mic back down*

I found another interesting parallel. The medical droid says of Leia, "Her life signs are weak but she's fighting."

It made me think of Padme losing the will to live. It's a shame that George made her a character. She should have been a fighter like her daughter.

nvm. I realized I had this thing called the Internet. "I was able to attend a screening of the movie today at Skywalker ranch. After the movie I spoke with the sound designer and the sound supervisor and asked them specifically about this as I swore that Kylo's lightsaber was an altered Wilhelm. They said they did not use the Wilhelm in The Last Jedi or Rogue One. They eluded that they have been using a new sound in a similar fashion for the last few movies they worked on but didn't want to point it out just yet. I thought it was a nice little teaser for the future."

Im thinking the "new sound" was the heavier pilot in the beginning that gets killed in like half a second. Thats the only time I heard something similar.

  17. 'Jumanji' Tops the Weekend and $500M Worldwide as 'Insidious 4' Scares Up Strong Debut - Box Office Mojo
Finishing third, Disney and Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Last Jedi delivered an estimated $23.5 million, pushing the film's domestic cume to $572.5 million. It remains the sixth largest domestic release of all-time and won't challenge for a spot in the top five until it can top The Avengers' $623 million performance from 2012. Internationally, the film added another $64.7 million for an international gross totaling $632.7 million and a worldwide gross over $1.2 billion. The film now ranks as the 13th largest worldwide release of all-time, passing Captain America: Civil War ($1.153 billion) and Minions ($1.159 billion) this weekend.

Saw this when searching myself. I wonder if this "new sound" is what a lot of people are thinking is the wilhelm during Kylo and Luke's battle.

Not a whole lot this time. I noticed that in the scene where DJ, Finn, and Rose are in the ship heading to Snoke's ship there's a couple of shots where you can clearly read the "don't join" on DJ's hat. Saw it in the visual guide, but it was cool to catch in the film itself.

My opinion didn't really change much, I'm still sitting firmly in the "love it" camp. The one thing that I paid a lot of attention to was the Poe/Holdo dynamic. A big complaint I keep hearing in person is "why didn't Holdo tell Poe her plan". More than anything my take a way this round was "Holdo didn't tell her plan to Poe for the same reason Poe doesn't tell Holdo his, they don't trust each other." I see that painted as a "plot hole" when in reality it's a simple and apparent situation. The difference being Holdo's had both seniority and the better plan. Just a thought.

Also, I believe it was @fenway89 who mentioned not liking the "need a lift" line from Rose. Not sure if it makes it better for anyone, but I noticed this go around that it's an exact mirror of DJ and BB8 from earlier when escaping Canto Bight. It made me feel more like she was poking fun at DJ and less like it was some cheese-ball kid's movie line.

I'll repost if I can remember anything else, but yea, definitely ready for at least one more theatre visit.
