Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Rian Johnson, December 15, 2017) Movie • Page 30

  1. The imagery is being used ... today ... in our country ... it's not 80 years passed imagery.

  2. I'd put a large amount of money down on you not liking this movie. You don't like TFA or Rogue One ... there's like a 5% chance you'll like this one. Like I think I could write what you're going to say right now and save it for December and post it. That's how confident I am in what your review of this movie is going to be.

    Right. That's what I'm saying.

We have a pres endorsed by the KKK, encites violence, etc.

Why can't we update the Empires uniforms to lo look like something newer and more in line with current nazi like figures instead of German WW2 uniforms. Not the occult symbols specifically I should have been more clear on that.

All I meant really. I think it could be interesting

    Care to explain that one?

Also are you mad? I'm on your side.

  6. They look like current Nazi imagery. Not sure how to explain that any different. Google for the Nazis using the black sun in Berkeley. Even Hux's haircut is right there.

    What? No?

No, I didn't like either of those movies. I've loved every Rian Johnson movie I've ever seen though and am genuinely excited to see what he has to offer. I don't know why my feelings about movies you like grate on you so much. What am I doing that bothers you?

I don't have nearly enough time to type it all out, and I definitely don't have time for the ensuing argument and giant paragraphs. I'm just saying you're very predictable and predicting you're not gonna like this movie. Especially if it gets good reviews from mainstream critics and fans, then you'll definitely pick it apart. That's all. I can guess your Letterboxd reviews with almost pinpoint accuracy, and am pretty good at guessing how they'll change on second viewing based on what film-crit-twitter says. And your comments on the other Star Wars movies gives me a pretty good guess where this one is gonna end up.

Okay. You're the one who instigated it, calling me out and belittling me in a thread where I've been openly excited and positive about my feelings for this upcoming movie. But if you don't want to go back and forth with me, please don't quote me. Please don't quote me assuming my motivations and feelings, because I'm going to respond to that. If there are forum rules I'm breaking then let me know so I can stop. Otherwise, please let me partake in discussions with what I think and feel, just like everyone else is doing.

  11. You can respond all you want, doesn't mean I am going to give you the response back you want. You can partake in the thread as much as you want, never said anything remotely differently. Just said I think I can predict with about 80% accuracy what you'll say about this movie in December. Dunno how that's belittling or calling you out because I said I think I can guess what you're going to say. I think I can guess what quite a few people in this thread are going to say with pretty good accuracy. Has little to do with assuming motivations or feelings, it has to do with making logical deductions based on past history. I can do it in music threads too. It's my one super power.

I know that my reaction to this movie is more than predictable haha. I'd be willing to bet a good chunk of change that I will love it.

  13. Y'all should hear my guesses about Brand New music. Am I right @Kevin360?

Also, I'm pretty effing predictable after 10 years of spewing my opinion everywhere, I dunno why that's seen as a bad thing.

You've made this thread very unpleasant for me. You've made other threads very unpleasant for me. I'm sorry, I'm sure I've done the same to you. I hope you like the movie.

I was all, "Why did I get mentioned in the Star Wars thread? I'm not even active in that thread."

    Then, "Oh..."

Bryce Dallas Howard's character was god awful in Jurassic World... worries me with Rey and everything. Evidently Rian is collaborating with Trevorrow for Episode 9 so hopefully that helps some. Still need to check out Safety Not Guarenteed.

The people at Lucasfilm seem pretty intent on writing strong female characters, so I don't think they'd let Trevorrow mess that up.

The one thing I hope they don't do again in this one is a scene where a female character does something badass and then a male character looks over surprised. It was fine when they did it in TFA (Finn running to help Rey when he first sees her and then looking shocked when she's beating up those guys with the staff). It was a cool play on the damsel in distress trope, but I rolled my eyes when they did it in Rogue One (when Cassian looks surprised at how well Jyn can beat up stormtroopers on Jedha. He knew Jyn was essentially raised by a militant, so why would this surprise him?). I get the message they're trying to send, but I think it belittles the point to have men looking surprised all the time when a woman does something badass.

I agree, I'm sort of hoping it is known in the resistance and partially through the galaxy that Rey is a training warrior and she is respected equally as a male lead would be.

one scene i would love to see from Luke is him confessing (preferably late in their training) that he never was properly trained as a Jedi and has had to put together a lot of his force knowledge and training as a Jedi himself. It would be interesting to hear him confess how lonely the burden was of carrying out the Jedi order alone was and how he came to be as powerful as we presume he is.

Rogue One always get flak for underdeveloped characters (slightly concerning when the most beloved character is a robot) but who was well written in TFA beside Rey and maybe Finn? The original cast was mishandled horribly, imo. Then there's just a whole bunch of copy-pasted characters who were significantly cooler in the trailer than film (ie Boba F... I mean, "Captain Phasma").

Didn't enjoy the latest films that much, but got high hopes for TLJ. But it is slightly worrying knowing just how disappointed Mark Hamill is in the direction they've taken Luke's character in both sequel films so far. But hopefully, Rian still does a better job than JJ did.

The characters were by a long shot the best thing about tfa

I'd say the characters are the best part of TFA. Kylo Ren is easily the most interesting villain in this universe. Clear motivation, conflict and back story. Old Han was handled pretty well too in my opinion.
