Welcome! A full team just to determine canon is definitely necessary with their current plans and how many mediums they're pushing out content in. I think their goal is to have this huge universe that also expands beyond just the movies (don't hold me to this, though). Diving into things like the books and comics has been fun for me because those introduce new characters, too.

 

I think it’s a bad take because I don’t agree that this trilogy hasn’t done its part in having a diverse cast, with diverse roles (non stereotypically), tons of incredibly strong female characters (leia, holdo, Rose, REY), and ultimately seems to be the most inclusive of the mega franchises.


The kid at the end is a poor slave nobody and the theme of him being able to use the force is what is important. Not that he may or may not be a little white kid.

I feel comments like Nathan’s about race/gender/sexuality when aimed at projects that are doing the right thing are ultimately more harmful than helpful.
There are projects that need to take Nathan’s type of criticism into account, I just don’t believe this film and this trilogy are one of them.

 

I don't know if Johnson considers characters that were in episode 8 for 2 minutes to be connected to the mainline films as long as the plot for the trilogy doesn't touch the plot of the main films.

 

If what I said is still the plan, I don't think his triloy is even taking place in this sector of the Star Wars universe. Like, maybe even a different galaxy.

 

I just love that those bombers are called Starfortresses

 

what happened to the Gungans by the way? are they still around or are they gone?

 

"Wait, 'Gungans?' I thought they were called 'Gungas?'"

 

So many people work at Lucasfilm and It seems that they all kick ass at their jobs

 

Has he said that it will take place in a different sector of the the universe? I haven't kept up with anything since the first day it was announced.

 

The city is Otoh Gunga so you might've been thinking of that

 

they should still be around, they are just Hobbit-like and never leave Naboo

 

I feel like the Gungans kinda had poor planning building their hub city in a lake

Like there's gotta be overpopulation by this era of Star Wars, starting in an ocean might've been smarter

 

The announcement said it will focus on "new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored." Also, Kennedy called it a "blank canvass." So no as extreme as what I was thinking but still not going to have any kind of connection to the main films.

That could definitely be the case

And I guess there's the possibility of Gungans living on other planets nearby since they're amphibious, and having different underwater cities built there

I keep forgetting about that part and just assuming it's Naboo or bust

 

Yeah in the Phantom Menace review they point out how Lucas himself didn't even know; behind the scenes and in interviews he was using "Gungans" and "Gungas" interchangeably.

 

i mean, we're from America and are thus American, so Gungans from Gunga tracks

 

One thing I love about this movie is that my opinion has constantly changed on parts of it

Like after seeing it there were parts I nitpicked at despite liking the movie and the more I thought about it the more I realized that it makes perfect sense and I'm glad those parts were there

And vice versa

 

I love that his title is just "Boss"

Every other monarch/leader has titles like Chancellor/Emperor/Queen/Lord/Grand Moff/etc, and he's just to the point

 

But that's not what he says. He literally calls them "Gungans" and then also, in different instances, calls them (phonetically) "Goongas."

Also, we're "Americans," not "Americas."

 

i was just referring to the name of the city making Gungan make more sense
