You've got to be kidding me.

Edit: Sorry, didn't mean to sound so hostile. I just very strongly disagree, the end of Jedi was the perfect ending to the story of Luke, Han, and Leia. I'm having a good time with these new movies but they are by no means necessary.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the end of Jedi (there needs to be a new nickname for ROTJ since LTJ is a thing...) didn't restore balance to the force. It's just that the dark side "lost" or whatever.

Well, this assumes once something is balanced it can never be unbalanced. Which has never been said. Hell, even Yoda said maybe the prophecy wasn't interpreted properly.

Oh, and you need to define what "balancing the force" means.

Kinda true. Sidious and Vader lost, but obviously the remnants of the empire remained unaddressed. The big focus of Luke and Leia being siblings kind of stole the wrap up in the end.

TBH I always did think about the fact that Sidious had never taken a single hit in any movie except for his battle with Windu, which some speculate was staged. Technically speaking, he only took a fall down a big hole, and the body was never found. There's a lot of room for unanswered questions.

Like Greg said, balancing the Force has never really been defined. It could mean the eradication of the Dark Side (although I'm inclined to agree that's a dumb way to interpret it. But the concept only came about with the prequels. One of the many things that sucks about the prequels is how it establishes the idea of balance in the Force without actually saying what that means.)

But nobody saw ROTJ when it came out and thought, oh no, now the Force is unbalanced!

To me the important thing about carrying on the story is that it shows that Luke made the same mistake that so many Jedi before him made, thought that he could carry on the Jedi by only teaching them the light side of the force. I think the story will end by showing that a force user must embrace both sides of the force in order to be balanced and not fall to the dark side. By suppressing the dark side it allows force users to be more easily swayed towards its power.

To me, the important thing about more Star Wars movies is that I like 'em, so as long as I keep liking 'em, I'll keep hoping for more.

I know when the title was announced most people leaned towards it implying Jedi was plural. But then:

    "
Rian Johnson recently spoke to Good Morning America about The Last Jedi. Eventually the controversial title was brought up, and Johnson clarified who the titular "last jedi" is:

"It's so funny when people started asking that when the title was announced because I never even pondered that question... In my mind its singular. They say in The Force Awakens that he's gone on to find the last Jedi temple. Luke is the last Jedi."

There could be multiple layers to it.

But, Luke was called the "last Jedi" in the crawl of TFA. So, if nothing else it was referring to that.

Interesting. I definitely also read it as two meanings. Johnson though seems to aim at just Luke.

  13. now worries haha. what frokensteen said, + what I meant was more like the fact that the whole saga felt unfinished due to the Prequel Trilogy, specifically its quality. I can't separate them from the Original one.

  14. Yep you're right. The prequels put too many unanswered questions in the mind of the viewers hence my confusion.

  15. It's the most logical place for this story to end on I think, and such a good lesson

  16. Eh.

I disagree with this. I think the idea of an "ending" is strange to begin with, why end? We've seen hundreds of stories with these characters now, plenty of them great, it's not a history book, there's no reason to declare "fin." or anything. The beauty of fiction is the ability to not have to end anything.

(I also don't think they gave Han or Leia a perfect ending in ROTJ. Luke and Vader they did perfectly, but the Han/Leia stuff I never found perfect.)

It's way too late, or much too early Prestigious

I'm excited for the story behind the new Battlefront II game. It is confirmed that there will be a book that explains the campaign in greater detail, and it will be Cannon. The story is from the perspective of a female special forces leader from the Empire who was on Endor and watched the Death Star 2 explode. The trailer teases that the story will explain the early rebuilding of the Empire which obviously turns into the First Order.

Battlefront II has more hours of my life than any other video game. I was cautiously optimistic throughout the trailer but I lost my shit when Darth Maul appeared.

Inferno Squad covers those same characters but takes place immediately after Rogue One. Based on the description to will take place mostly on Jedha.

Did this sequel trilogy need to be told? No, Return of the Jedi wrapped up things pretty neatly. Am I mad that they're making this new trilogy? Not at all. They did a good job setting everything up in TFA (with the exception of a third death star) and now I'm invested in the new and old characters and this new journey.

The only thing I hope for with this one is that it takes more risks and doesn't just copy Empire. I'm sure there will be similar beats, but just make it new. Rian Johnson is a creative guy, so I'm confident it will be.

Plus, if they end up sucking, that doesn't take away from the previous movies.

  25. I'm watching TFA right now. God I love this movie so much! I can't wait for TLJ.
