I’m sure Disney loves him saying this stuff

Mark's too honest for his own good. Disney/Lucasfilm must flip out anytime he speaks.

  3. I’d be thankful I got that role and a director that got that performance out of him tbh. Not like he was burning down the place as Trickster. Haha.

I mean, I get it. That’s not “my” Luke either. We all have an image of what Luke should have or could have been.

The one in the movie is not what I would have wanted if you had given my the choice to describe him when they first announced these movies. But I love what they did with him. I’m glad I didn’t expect it.

Also, I love (and much prefer) the origimal concept art that was commissioned by Lucas for Luke's hideaway location in his original script:
Luke Being In Exile In 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Was George Lucas' Idea

Personally, I always hated the look of Ahch-To. Just a remote Irish island. It never looked impressive. They made it better than I expected but these concept arts are so much more what I'd have personally preferred.

Again I disagree with you, it’s an ancient Jedi temple, there shouldn’t be a lot of technology there, I absolutely loved it.. that concept art looks way to prequels for me, glad they changed it

  9. Thank god Lucas is far away from these movies.

    Yikes.

This is in a completely different galaxy though. What's 'ancient' to them is vastly different to us. That tone fits perfectly fine, imo. Far superior than a little remote Irish island (although it's cool that it's all real). I can't imagine a Marvel film setting for a bland remote setting given the same opportunity. Like, again imo, seeing Thor (Ragnarok) in his native homeland & exploring the galaxy looks so much better than him in any Earth setting. Same with the Guardians of the Galaxy (Avengers will be interesting).

Just JJ had a hinch to find a realistic scenery due to prequels backlash of CGI (despite today's advancements). But I like a lot of the visual imagery of the prequels. You don't. You win with your preference being chosen anyway, haha

  12. The Jedi temple should not be ostentatious. It should not look like a Marvel set. Arg.

  13. The small, quaint, humble-ness of the island and the Jedi is the point. The stoic/Buddha parallels are built in.

Imagine telling George Lucas how Star Wars designs should look.

One of the best things about the Original Trilogy, and one of the reasons it was so successful, is that it managed to create a science fiction fantasy world that felt like a real far away place. They achieved that by using real sets and locations in addition to green screens to add a sense of realism.

There was never a moment in the prequels where I wasn't fully aware of how fake everything was, and because there was no immersive quality to the settings, the acting had to pick up the slack to make everything feel believable. Live stage theater is successful because the actors can sell the story, but the Prequel Trilogy did not have that quality of acting.

  16. More people should have. When they told him “no” and let others take the reigns in those decisions is when/why his movie was actually good.

Imagine caring too much about what a person thinks because of their name. Just because he created the series doesn't mean his ideas are the best ones. The success of his original vision relied on the ideas of others.

Also, some of the angry fans, in addition to hating the story choices, also say that the CGI was 'overdone'. I don't think adding more elaborate CGI locations would help the film for most, outside of the tiny few who like dense frames with so many things going on.

American Grafitti was a good Lucas film too, but he had two co-writers.

The prequels had more miniature sets built than in all original films combined. Things like the pod-racing stadium (location-wise) looked great. Then they were experimenting with new technology. That's why it's applauded by directors like Steven Spielberg (even if he's biased friends with George). It was using CGI at a time when most of the Hollywood competition looked like this

    and that was in 2002.

Yes, the actors were at a disadvantage with the heavy blue-screen but that still happens now in every Marvel film. Tom Holland didn't even know who he was fighting against in an Avengers film. But there's more knowledge and experience now. The technology has evolved. But I do agree there is weak moments, even in this film, those 'horses' looked awful.

I think for settings it can be brilliant, ie special editions of Cloud City look great and more immersive.

  22. The best of the OT is in spite of Lucas too imo. That video I posted earlier today about how the movie he directed got saved by edits rings true. Surrounding himself with “yes men” is maybe the story of his monumental downfall.

The disaster ‘Empire’ woulda been in his hands scares me to this day. And I’m still mad the best versions of the OT I can get are fan edits defucking the movies.

Genuinely thought the general consensus was most people approved of the Cloud City editing as one of the few good special edition changes. It fits, imo.
