Why do people care so much about Admiral Ackbar.. I did not even think twice about him dying.

    It’s fucking Admiral Ackbar!

He has done a lot if you have read the books over the years. He is a major supporting character for the saga.

People thought the same thing about Vader / Luke reveal in TESB back in the day.

I swear I read Abrams stating in like 2016 that we wouldn’t find out about Rey’s parentage until episode IX and Rian said in an interview yesterday that he doesn’t know if Abrams has another idea to who her parents are and that them being “nobodies” could definitely change.

I don't want them to change Rey's parentage now. Imo they have committed to it now and I don't think it would make sense otherwise. Kylo said "deep down you've known it the whole time" and other words to that effect where it cuts to Rey and she's not saying anything back to him because she agrees with him and does know deep down.

Also Rian Johnson has already said since the film came out that Kylo said it because that's what he truly saw and that Rey also believed it when he said it. So there's that. But admitted it's open to JJ's point of view.

No. No it can't. You won't believe it until Obi-Wan or Yoda tell her in the next movie though. This isn't a train you should ride, my friend. You'll only find yourself disappointed when your theory doesn't turn out true.

I'm sure Rian said in his mind Kylo and Rey both believe what was said but if JJ interprets it another way then that's how it is. But I will be annoyed if they go back on it now.

Liked this even more the 2nd time. The humor bothered me far less. Actually, somehow a few of the comical beats seemed more serious in tone.

What's important to me is that the main story between Kylo/Rey/Luke was spectacular. While Poe and Finn's storylines can seem inconsequential, they hit on the themes of the film perfectly. Honestly, I just loved how their arcs subverted expectations. Canto Bight could have been better, but it's not bad by any means.

Only things that still didn't work for me were Leia's Mary Poppin's force moment and BB-8 being a little too prequels R2 this time around. Though I do agree, there's really no way the way Leia used the force in that scene wouldn't look like that. I think if you have her be a shorter distance away from the ship and not holding that pose would make it less jarring though.

I'm undoubtably going to see this again, though probably not for another week so I can allow it to really settle in for me. But honestly, I absolutely adore this.

Also, I really enjoyed Del Toro in this. He is a great contrast to Rose. Someone posted a thing from Rian saying him and Rose were like the devil/angel on the shoulders of Finn. I thought it worked great. Rose's yin/yang necklace serves perfectly as a subtle symbol for both characters’ relationship to Finn.

Like, the biggest flaws with Marvel movies is that their villains are unrepeatable/ have no character. Hux and Kylo aren't portrayed as good... ever? in this movie. They just aren't walking swastikas, which makes since because they ARE humans and not completely shit characters UGH...

I don't have twitter anymore so I have to rant here.

So do you have a problem with Palpatine not being able to figure out Vader was gonna turn in ROTJ? Cause it's basically the exact same idea.

Rey is the first one to say they were nobodies. Kylo follows up and adds in that they were dead, but Rey says it first.

I feel like that distinction is being overlooked by many since they just say Kylo could be lying. But Rey revealed it initially, not Kylo.

Snoke was actively putting all his effort into reading Kylo's mind while he was turning on him while Palpatine was busy attacking and talking to Luke and not thinking about Vader, so it is different situations.

That’s literally untrue. He was controlling Rey’s movements and holding her in place.

I don't have the memory of who says it first but had I remembered that then yup that backs up the theory even more. I think if they changed it in 9 it would come across as them backtracking because they think people didn't like it. And with all the problems I had with TLJ this wasn't one of them, I wanted her parents to be nobodies.

Okay I take back "all" his efforts if we're getting pedantic about it but my post was not "literally untrue". Snoke was reading Kylo's mind as he was doing it, Palpatine wasn't. Snoke is literally describing the thoughts he is reading from Kylo as he is doing it. He has his eyes closed and is concentrating on feeling Kylo's intentions which is the exact word he uses.
