Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Rian Johnson, December 15, 2017) Movie • Page 110

  1. Aftermath trilogy was bad in my opinion. Just could not stand the authors style and childish way of writing.

Ahsoka, Thrawn, Bloodline, Catalyst, Tarkin, and Lost Stars are all excellent.

I agree with just about all of this besides Catalyst, which I did like a lot. Rebel Rising is great and Dark Disciple is a lot of fun too even if it does feel like unused scripts at times.

The other books in new canon are:

Battlefront: Twillight Company-really good war book but doesn’t add much to the lore

Battlefront 2:Inferno Squad-great but read Rebel Rising first as it serves as an epilogue to that book and Saw in Rogue One

Certain Point of View-lots of fun short stories mixed with a lot of meh ones but is worth a read just for the interesting take (I’m halfway through it)

Phasma-...have it but havent even opened it yet and the new Luke book and Canto Bight are gonna push it back further

Guardians of the Whills-disposable kids book that’s fine

Oh yea, Phasma is interesting, but doesn’t really feel like Star Wars beyond certain characters being there.

I've enjoyed all the books I've gone through so far. Thrawn has been my favorite of the books. Also really enjoyed Bloodline and Ahsoka (Ahsoka might be my favorite character in Star Wars, so I'm biased there). I just started the Aftermath trilogy so I can't comment on that just yet. Catalyst enhanced my viewing experience for Rogue One quite a bit. Lost Stars and Dark Disciple are also solid.

The Dr. Aphra comics are some of my favorite new canon stories though. Can't recommend that enough. Basically a twisted Indiana Jones in the Star Wars universe.

Ahsoka is a wonderful character! Also, I agree that the Dr. Aphra comics are good. I'm not caught up completely since I use Marvel Unlimited, but she's been a great addition since she appeared in Darth Vader.

The novelization of Revenge of the Sith is incredible. It's one of the best Star Wars books period in my mind. Besides that, I've read The Force Awakens novelization which added a few things. I've heard Rogue One has a lot of extra info which is cool.

Dig how much people like Ashoka on here. I love her but I always thought there were mixed feelings. Really excited about reading what happened with her after TCWand also whatever happens in Rebels.

Agreed, but I still loved it. A lil slow at times and I thought the ending was a little weak but really liked Vi, Cardinal, Siv's story and just that whole journey they took and all the different challenges. The whole Arratu part was so awesome. Loved the insight on the mentality and purpose of the First Order and how they get and train their storm troopers. It was surprising to see such dark content like them having to having to purify and drink their urine, cannibalism and and the detraxor stuff. Even though the book was kind of explaining why Phasma did what she did in TFA, it succeeded in me loving Phasma and really believing she is a badass and probably the most ruthless, dangerous and lethal person in the galaxy aside from force users.

If she sucks in TLJ or even just doesn't kick some major ass in the movie I will definitely be upset.

Nice. Cant wait. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Also I have to say with this news I'm actually really happy about JJ on episode 9. I was bummed because I really wanted more Rian Johnson and now that I do my dissapointment dissolved immediately.

Im really happy that JJ can end the story he started with the characters he created. I love TFA and don't think its just a rehash and the similar plot and storyline of ANH wasn't his idea, but he now has that reputation and also has a bad rap for not being able to finish stories well so Im glad he has a chance to prove people wrong on both fronts.

That said I didn't like how he handled Hans death and the aftermath of that, so I'm still nervous about how he'd handle say Luke or Leia's death if they do go out.

While I can’t say how specific his ideas were when it came to mirroring ANH, he did want to and intentionally did so. He has said it himself.

Hmm didn’t hear that. Interesting. I don’t have the context or what he said so I’ll have to look it up but you also can’t expect him to come out and say “yeah they told me I should make it similar because they wanted to play it safe” or whatever ya know. Well never know. Even if he did have a big part in it I still think he and LF have awareness of the complaints and no way episode 9 will be like ROTJ.

Edit: just read the quote and yeah did seem like he took credit for it but did say "we very consciously tried to borrow familiar beats" and "TFA was a bridge and a kind of reminder; the audience needed to be reminded what ‘Star Wars’ is, but it needed to be established with something familiar" which sounds like something LF couldve told him when they put him on the film.

    who knows.

Also, I just finished Leia. Wow. definitely my favorite of the 3 Ive read so far. Claudia Gray is a wizard and I love her. Im going to be a fucking wreck when Leia goes.

Rain Johnson news is p awesome

I've wanted a SW trilogy that doesn't have to be bound to the Skywalker family for a while. I wanted this current trilogy to be that tbh. The universe is way too big and interesting to do that forever.

Do you guys think there's any chance Leia doesn't die? It would be super tricky to do without Carrie to shoot anything but I would prefer at least one of the OT characters to have a happy/peaceful ending (I would be shocked if Luke survived the new trilogy)

No idea and have no idea how its even possible to handle the situation. She was supposed to be in IX, so that means they didnt intend to kill her off in this movie but I cant imagine them killing her off screen. I cant imagine them recasting. I wouldnt mind Claudia Gray finishing off a trilogy to end Leia's story but I cant imagine that either.

I have no idea. All I know is that Im going to be super sad if Mark and Carrie don't have a scene together.

Based on the last tv spot...

we know that the Falcon makes it’s way to Crait, most likely third act. This doesn’t mean for sure Luke leaves the island... but I don’t see this movie just leaving him there. Leia will obviously be on Crait. I think their reuion is all but confirmed

Watching Rogue One. Any chance that Disney goes the route of Lucas and tinkers with the facial replacement CGI in this movie as the tech gets better in the coming years?

Good for you! I wanted to do that, but A) I’m weak and B) this year has been a garbage fire and watching SW Trailers gives me some momentary joy.

It was just me connecting a few dots and making an assumption. But honestly, I wish the newest dot wasn’t in my head already. But I did expect it. But , no worries! I had an image of Luke spoiled for me for TFA. Which in it of itself wasn’t a super spoiler, but I didn’t want to know if it wasn’t released officially. Then when it ended up basically being the final shot of the movie, it kind of cheapened that initial reveal for me. It didn’t ruin the movie, but I really wish I could have seen Luke for the first time in theater as they intended. So I try to always spoil tag stuff when appropriate.

I appreciate it! im sure its not that big of a deal. Its probably better than hovering by the door of my theatre before Thor and having to go outside when I heard Black Panther and The Last Jedi trailers come on so I didnt hear anything lol

what really sucks is I basically know everything that happens in the trailer via Youtube thumbnails and titles and stuff. finn goes undercover in the First Order. Ends up fighting phasma in that same outfit. rey gets tortured. lukes afraid of somebody (rey or kylo) having too much power, leia and kylo face off in some capacity, The Porgs kidnap Rey and take her to Porg City and take her to their leader, Jar Jar who trains her to use the dark side
so I know all the big stuff.

but at this point though its personal. I want to stop watching trailers in general for movies I already know Im excited to see. Also this may be kidn of weird but for brief momentary joy and to alleviate the torture of not allowing myself to watch the trailer ive been watching fan reactions of people watching The Force Awakens trailer, which always puts a smile on my face.

didn’t they already make a statement saying they wouldn’t be using technology to have Leia in IX?
