Yeah it's going to be about one of the first Starfleet Academy classes of the new Federation in the 32nd century. Tig Nataro is going to be reprising her role as a series regular and Mary Wiseman will be reprising her role as Tilly on a reoccuring basis.
whoa what?? I didn't know that. so like all of the trek we know is a thousand years old at this point? man I hate discovery
Well we still have SNW and we still have that upcoming live action comedy series which will presumably take place in the normal timeline.
Getting absolutely raked by critics last I saw, never finished Discovery, so was going to maybe do that before checking it out.
Yeah good luck finishing Discovery lol. I am a Trek completionist and even I couldn't do that despite trying several times.
The Jamie Lee Curtis as Control heading Section 31 reveal at the end was interesting. I feel like this movie was a little too confident setting things up for a followup that it 100% is not going to get lol
To clarify I do agree with all the criticisms of Section 31. It doesn't look or feel like Star Trek. It lacks any real critical political message about Section 31 that was built up in DS9. It turns an evil imperialist entity into basically the Guardians of the Galaxy. It is an attempt at a corporate soulless Disney-esque slopification of Star Trek. I pretty much expected all this which is why I turned my Trek fan brain off while watching and enjoyed it for the dumb entertainment it was.
I asked ChatGPT which sci-fi series had the most advanced civilization, and despite being compared to Star Wars, Dune, Halo, and Mass Effect, Star Trek came out on top (replicaters, antimatter power, Dyson spheres, warp travel, etc). The only one it mentions, at least from a relatively mainstream sci-fi perspective, that is more advanced is the Stargate universe, which has galactic-scale transport networks (Stargates) and the ability to easily manipulate stars. Just a random rabbit hole I wanted to explore
Shatner said at a fanfest recently he is in talks right now meeting for pitches for a potential return to the franchise for one final go as Kirk.
I'd love to see him in Trek again, not sure a show is the way to do it. feels like a movie or like a smaller but consistent part in another show would work better
