I was never a huge Discovery fan, but people celebrating it season 4 being the last are gross. That being said it was time for it to come and end. I think New Trek is finally finding its groove and better make room for new stuff and new ideas.
I like Discovery a lot and S4 was its strongest one. That said, 5 years feels like the right run for the show before it runs out of steam. Fuck right wing losers celebrating though.
Re: Picard, fuck yes, give me all the Deep Space 9 content As for Discovery, it was never my favorite Trek show, but I will always be disappointed about a Star Trek series ending. I’ve enjoyed having a distant-future show in the mix, I kind of wanted that ever since that Enterprise episode where they show postwar Earth in the 29th century or whatever
Ok now if Picard season 3 just give me The current status of Bajor and what Kira is up to and I will be happy. Not expecting them to get into Sisko/the Prophets but that would be incredible of they did.
With Discovery and Picard ending, we’ll just have Lower Decks and SNW. I want more “nu-trek”. The section 33 show has been rumored, but has there been any updates…?
Any theories on Jack's vision? I have heard some that part of the vision seemed to show The Great Link, so there are some people that think he is a deep cover Changeling
Working my way through TNG episodes that we already know will tie into this season Did Datalore, Brothers, and The Descent. Now going to do Elementary Dear Data and Ship in a Bottle.
I know Elementary, Dear Data is the more famous one, but Ship in a Bottle is hands down the best the two Moriarty episodes.
There is still another season of Prodigy coming too Section 31 and Starfleet Academy are still listed as being in development. There was an announcement in February 2022 that Academy will be in the pipeline after Section 31 is finished so at least as of a year ago they were still in the plans.
Prodigy is one where I keep telling myself I'll get back to. It is steeped in Voyager lore, and Voyager admittedly I am not as up on as TNG or DS9.
Voyager is definitely worth the watch. I love Janeway. Seven of Nine’s character progression is some of my favorite in all of fiction.
Alright I am diving into Voyager. I am going to do the "mini-binge" watching strategy I did for TOS, TNG, and DS9, which is instead of watching everything linearly I pick one villain, character, or arc and watch all those episodes together. I will also find an essential episode list and watch the ones that don't fit into my mini-binges. I am starting with all the Voyager Borg-centric episodes, then I will do the Kazon, then I will do the episodes that are important to the arc of each character.
Check out the episode The Thaw. It’s not part of an arc or anything, but it’s one of my favorite Trek episodes. Also, there’s a big villain that appears a few times called Species 8472. They will be in a Borg episode you watch, but their other episodes are good too.
And check out Tuvix and Threshold. Tuvix is memed a lot, but has really good moral questions and there’s still debates if Janeway did the right thing or not. And…Threshold is the worst episode of Trek of all time. But it’s so ridiculous that it has to be seen to be believed. There’s memes that it has to be good because it won an Emmy…which it did for make up.
Yeah Scorpion is monumentally better than anything from the first couple of seasons of Voyager I've seen.
Discovery is one of my favourite shows of all time so this makes me pretty sad, but I guess it had a good run
@Halitosis Jones Favorite Voyager episode for me is Year of Hell. It’s a standalone two-parter, so it won’t fall into your character arc stuff, but it may be a top 3 episode of Star Trek for me
Sometimes I will pick a theme to binge too. Like once I did a binge of all the TNG Holodeck episodes.
Them writing Kes out the show felt really shoehorned. At least when they did it with Jadzia in DS9 it felt like it had emotional weight to it. Kes is just like " I know I have a boyfriend on board and I have lived with these people for 3 years but I am gonna go be psychic living energy now. Peace!" in the span of one episode.
Speaking of gaps left in Trek shows I got some ideas to throw against the wall. Personally I would like some limited series and maybe some anime style stuff that fleshes out and explores some lore. Series about the Maquis A series on the Federation-Cardassian War featuring young Janeway and O'Brien An animated series that is the lost Federation-Romulan War 5th season of Enterprise we never got to see An animated almost fantasy-esque series about Kahless and the birth of the Klingon Empire A USS Stargazer series about the adventures of young Picard and Jack Crusher. Basically a TNG era version of what SNW is doing with TOS characters and lore. Dax. An anthology series about the exploits of different incarnations of the Dax symbiote throughout Federation history.
