Excited for next week's episode. They actually found a way to do a 90's Trek era holodeck episode without actually having a holodeck.
Reading about how Wesley Crusher and Kore are confirmed not to be coming back in Picard season 3. Little confused since they seemed to be setting something up there. Then I remembered The Travelers are not restricted by the bounds of time and can really show up in anywhere, like they could pop up on both SNW and DIS and it would still makes sense canonicly. Also Elnor confirmed not in season 3 despite them resurrecting him in the finale is making me wonder if he's going to be in that Starfleet Academy show they have in development. Biggest headscratcher is Dr. Jurati/New Borg Queen confirmed not in season 3 after they clearly set her up for a huge role in the cliffhanger of the finale.
I think since the second season wasn’t well received, they want to do fan service and bring back the Next Gen characters.
Starting to feel like how they basically pretended Star Trek: Into Darkness never happened for the 3rd Chris Pine movie
This week’s episode had me laughing and smiling because of how campy it was. Seeing the captain and Uhura in those roles, I feel like it was a blast to film for them. But that ending…idk what to say. So good.
Watched The Ready Room behind the scenes on this episode. Gotta appreciate the costume design and how they specifically designed M'Benga's costume not to be eurocentric fantasy, they wanted him to look like an African king. Also Runa the dog is Christina Chong's actual dog.
This video probably one of the hottest of hot takes among Trekkies but i can't agree with it more. The common notion that "Khan is the best Trek villain" goes completely out the door after watching DS9. "Are you sure it's Khan you love or the movie?
I’m out and can’t watch the video now, but I honestly think Gul Dukat is the best villain. He was a good arch nemesis to Sisko and very well written.
Yeah guy in the video says Winn is the 2nd best Trek villain behind Dukat, but focuses on Winn because of how overlooked she usually is by the fandom.
Spoilers for today’s SNW episode so do NOT click if you haven’t seen it yet. Wow. Holy fucking shit. This is a bold show so I’m not shocked they’d kill a character, but I was NOT seeing that coming this soon. My biggest complaint with the Discovery season finale was that they resurrected Book, so the idea this show has real stakes is a breath of fresh air, even though I really liked Helmer (and all of the main cast). They have such fleshed out personalities in such a short time, this death actually really hit me. I only get more impressed with this show. If it stays this good in future seasons it could be my favorite Trek show, and I never thought anything would top the 90s shows for me. Absolutely floored.
Went from silly fantasy costume dressup time one episode to straight up Alien inspired horror the next. I love this show.
I'll just go ahead and say it. SNW is better than anything Disney+ is doing with Star Wars and Marvel.
There was an incredible easter egg the previous episode I missed. The book "The Elysian Kingdom" was written by Benny Russell, Benjamin Sisko's 1950's science fiction writer alter ego from DS9 6x3 "Far Beyond the Stars".
Yeah, if I didn’t see someone else online point it out, I would have missed it. I haven’t seen that DS9 episode in years.
Random thoughts: It just occurred to me how the ending mirrors Spock’s sacrifice in Wrath of Khan. This episode is a total homage to Alien. I like the new Gorn. Lizard humanoids wouldn’t be as savage as the Gorn have been made out to be in the show’s build up. We have one more episode, but it really felt like a season finale, with one character death and one character departure.
Personally I don't think they're dead. 1) We didn't actually see him die. 2) They specifically said that Gorn cannot survive the cold. 3) he said that planet has similar climate to Andoria his homeplanet which he can survive in
