It's just sad that both Sisko and Odo's story archs ended in a way that were left open to expansion, and we'll probably never see them be followed up. i thought maybe there could be a way to include Sisko and bring back Avery Brooks in this current season of Picard but the more i watch the more i'm doubtful. I need to know if Bajor joined the Federation or not dammit lol
Not 100% loving this season of Picard, but do love that it looks like it's finally going to expand on the lore of Guinan and Q having had some kind of antagonistic encounter centuries prior to the timeline of TNG which was referenced in just one scene in season 2 of TNG, but never referenced again and remained a mystery until now.
That's something TNG maybe did better than DS9. The episodic nature gave them opportunities to introduce things as one-offs which can be frustrating and maybe some people some people would see as a negative but it adds a lot to world building. Like remember The Nth Degree? Those giant curious alien heads are still out there lol. I love stuff like that
Currently watching Undiscovered Country for the first time in awhile. This might be my favorite of the TOS films. The Kirk and McCoy on the Klingon penal colony moon parts are just fantastic. I definitely agree with the take i saw on a Letterboxed review that Undiscovered Country really did lay the groundwork for a lot of elements we eventually saw in DS9. First time we see shady "deep state" like elements within Starfleet, we see what appears to be an early concept what eventually became the Founders, we get the Khitomer Accords which are a major part of Dax's backstory, and we got tons of actors who eventually got cast in DS9.
The majority of the TNG cast (Frakes, Burton, McFadden, Dorn, Sirtis, Spiner) is joining the main cast of Picard S3.
Yeah i've just come to accept that Kurtzman era Star Trek just isn't for me. Not bitter or mad about it though, it's just made to appeal to a different generation with different tastes than people who grew up with Berman era Trek or classic Roddenbury era Trek
Watching season 4 of Discovery. One canonical thing i don't understand. the crew of Discovery seems completely aware of what Romulans look like and that they're related to Vulcans, but they are from the 2250's a full decade before anyone in the Federation first saw what a Romulan even looked like. Like from the timeline they come from they shouldn't know anything about the Vulcan/Romulan connection...
Star Trek’s socials announced they’re releasing Star Trek NFT’s. It’s…disappointing to say the least. I stumbled across this and it’s perfect.
So I have zero Star Trek background, but my fiance made me watch the first two JJ Abrams films this weekend and I freaking loved them. Crazy that a movie from 2009 still looks so good.
Idk. Discovery needs a lot of prior knowledge beforehand. I’d recommend Star Trek 2, 3, and 4 with the original cast. The perfect movie trilogy.
Or the episodes of Next Gen The Inner Light (greatest episode of sci-if tv) or the two-parter Best of Both Worlds.
Yeah just start TNG from the beginning. It hits its stride around the end of season 2 and turns into some of the best tv of all time It's super comforting watching hyper competent people work together to solve space problems. One of my go-to relaxation shows
I agree 100%. I just recommended the best episodes so they can decide if they wanted to watch the series.
I was watching silly TNG episodes the other night and sometimes you can notice the funniest little details. In Starship Mine which already has the funniest Data plot in the show, you can see Geordi at the reception getting food from the buffet and on his plate is just like some yogurt covered raisins or something and then 2 habanero peppers. That's his meal. In another episode Geordi is asleep in his bed with his uniform and shoes on. Maybe I'm just laughing at Geordi being a freak actually
The way i got through TNG was I would pick a character or storyline and look up all the episodes featuring that on Memory Alpha. So i would just watch all the Data centric episodes, then I'd do all the Q episodes, all the Worf/Klingon centric episodes, Borg episodes, ect. I also followed Lets Watch Star Trek 's episode guide for the essentials.
LOVED the Strange New Worlds premiere. Perfect mix of serious and funny to capture the old Star Trek tone. Liked this season of Picard too, but Strange New Worlds could end up being my favorite thing they’ve done since Voyager
