I know the obvious thing w/ Pills is the jingle component, but it kinda reminds me of something from musical theater. Anyone else getting that? Almost like there's a specific song from some musical but I just can't grasp it.
Y'all are crazy "pills" is amazing. That breakdown/coda at the end? Wooo. Also such a catchy and fun song, and love the classic Annie Clark guitar spazz halfway through. It's such a trip of a song.
Someone in the stereogum comments for best songs of the week said it should get a Danny Brown remix and nothing has ever made more sense.
Yea Pills is fun but I'd say it's probably the weakest song on here, but that says more about the quality of the album more than Pills being weak.
Pills being the weakest track is ridiculous to me after one listen, but it's also just after one listen so who knows what will come of this album
I think of “Quartz” by TV on the Radio. It’s the way the chorus comes in I think. That sudden shift in melody. But it’s not truly that similar....I think I also think of “About to Die” by Dirty Projectors when I hear “Hang on Me”. They aren’t all that similar either. But there’s something in the way Annie sings it that has been making me hum “About to Die” instead.
Pills is great, "pills to fuck pills to eat pills pills pills down the kitchen sink" is at least top ten hooks of the year and the whole album is rad
Seems like a lot to digest initially so I'm thinking this will grow on me. Back end of this was particularly strong imo.
I mean this is the best record of the year. Hands down. Not close. This is the current bar for rock music in 2017. Unapologetic, her confidence is infectious. Her masterpiece.
I’m not usually this guy, but a 7.6 from Pitchfork is ridiculous. That makes this her lowest scoring album from them.
