I thought JAW nailed Bruce every time they cut to him sitting sideways with his arm up on the back of a booth in a diner.

the comments in the OG Bruce thread about the female characters made me remember that right at the end, as he's walking off stage to see his mom you can see down the hallway blurred out a woman with like, noticeably red hair and i wondered if that was coincidence or if that was meant to reference Patti.

completely inconsequential to the film, but there were a few moments in this that felt like little nods to people who know bruce's story already.

I’d consider myself an absolute diehard, and thought this was fine. I don’t think there’s really a delineation point based on how well you know Bruce’s work, it really comes down to how the material is presented.

All of the flashback stuff was tough to get through. Honestly think there’s a pretty cool 90-minute movie in there somewhere, but Cooper could not resist I guess the more “Walk Hard” tendencies.

Its hard to tell any story about bruce and not touch on the relationship with his father but, yes, the flashback stuff was very easily the worst stuff in this. Honestly even the very final scene with his dad felt weird.

also lol, such a silly nitpick, but during that scene when he was like "ive never sat on your lap before" made me think of the lyrics to my hometown

I agree, he definitely needed to figure into the story somehow, but I think there were more creative options than flashbacks that felt a little too on the nose.

I hate to be this person but idk why this exists. I didn’t have a bad time watching it but felt pretty lifeless

I know probably shockingly little about Bruce. Didn’t know he had daddy issues like that

Yeah he’s got a few songs about it (Independence Day, Adam raised a Cain, my fathers house) but also stories he tells like the intro of the river on the 75-85 album

Now here's biopic that needed to but now will never exist

I liked this more than I expected to based on the general critical and audience response, but less than I would have hoped to enjoy a Springsteen movie. Mostly, I remain a little baffled that this is the Springsteen biopic that got the greenlight. Heavy on inside baseball, light on crowdpleasing moments. Overall, weird movie, but I definitely didn't have a bad time like I've had with certain music biopics in the past (cough, Bohemian Rhapsody).

Mr State Trooper got me into Bruce - thank you, Sopranos - so it was cool for me to see them focus on this piece of his timeline.

That said, I too only saw “the bear” anytime JAW spoke.

    This was pretty bad.

We are doomed to have one of these a year until the awards stop. We have Michael Jackson next year and four Beatles movies in 2028. Who is going to fill 2027? Surely they won't let Jimi Hendrix last for long. Aretha Franklin, Ozzy Osbourne, The Ramones all seem ripe for a trite story.

Give me an irreverent Dave Grohl biopic where Dave plays himself, they don’t do anything to make him look younger, and he wears a bunch of goofy cheap wigs

Don't think this bad boy is winning any awards. Jeremy Allen White isn't even going to get an Oscar nomination and he was probably its best hope.

I actually watched it for the 2nd time yesterday, this time with my Dad; I'm the rare case of someone who actually enjoyed this (he did not, but he really only likes war films).

It was nominated for a Golden Globe so they are obviously still bribing/pushing the movie for awards. Every year a few awardsbait films fail, but that doesn't mean they stop trying.

  21. As a Bruce Springsteen movie it’s horrible and terribly written, as a biopic I kind of like it’s an extremely contained story and framing it as an artist crashing under depression isn’t something we see a ton of. JAW very good, Scott cooper extremely bad

Better or worse than Gabby's Dollhouse: The Movie?

Yea I can’t say it was bad per se. Just forgettable. But I did like the way it was done.
