Remember in the OG days when Spotify allowed you to send music to others in the app? At least in the desktop version you could. Only lasted a year or two before they got rid of the feature Spotify launches a messaging feature in a bid to become more social | TechCrunch
I feel like this has been on Apple Music for years, unless it got removed and re-added at some point. In any case, it’s definitely on Apple Music.
Messaging functionality feels like the kind of thing that could turn into a whole lot of spam very quickly unless heavily regulated. Nothing will get people to leave this app faster than a personal inconvenience like that
Weird! I feel like I’ve run into missing albums/artists only a few times in the years I’ve been using it.
Can't wait to have another channel to send my friends playlists/songs they will never bother listening to
They finally added lossless. I was never all that fussed but will appreciate having it via Connect on Sonos next month. Lossless Listening Arrives on Spotify Premium With a Richer, More Detailed Listening Experience — Spotify
Took them long enough. I suspect enough people had been moving from Spotify and mentioning that the quality was better elsewhere so they finally just rolled it out.
I was so close to springing for Tidal to get the best out of the amp/streamer I have at home and it was only laziness and reticence to use yet another platform that stopped me. About time they sorted this out. Pleased to see it's included in Premium and not an added cost. Wonder if it will stay that way.
Okay, these new Spotify playlist/mixing tools have invigorated me as far as playlist inspiration is concerned.
Suppose we can probably expect Wrapped tomorrow I copied all of my playlists over to AM earlier this year but then kept using Spotify as it’s still integrated into my life in other ways, but am gonna push myself to rip the band-aid in the new year. Won’t lie and say I wasn’t a little bitter that Spotify rolled out Lossless shortly after I put in the effort to leave, but honestly the app has been so glitchy ever since I enabled it that it won’t be hard to walk away from
I mean the way I look at it now is didn’t the main CEO/Head of Apple gift Trump a gold statue? Apple can fuck off too
If you care about European (urban) music and use playlists for discovery - which you basically have to - then Spotify has no viable alternative. Their market share is so insane here. Otherwise I would switch to Tidal or a similar smaller service.
No they absolutely can - I’m by no means under the impression they’re morally superior by any noteworthy margin. But between the (at the time) lack of lossless streaming and multiple artists I like who left Spotify in 2025, I figured I may as well try the next most convenient service
Tbh my music discovery comes from word of mouth, chorus.fm, and ocassionally (sigh) targeted instagram ads. I don’t really see my listening habits changing much, but will probably revert back if I notice a decrease in variety for whatever reason
Yeah I get it, but that doesn’t really work for, like, Swiss rap or whatever unless you are physically there, haha
Suggestion: Rather than just jumping the shark and moving to a different service, the other services usually have a free trial period. Tidal and Apple do at least. So you can fuck around with them for 30 days or whatever, try pushing your Spotify playlists to one or both of them and see which one is most successful and which one works best for what you want out of a streaming service before you cancel your Spotify and potentially lose anything.
I think with Spotify I should be able to just downgrade to the free tier, so I’m not too worried about losing anything. I did consider Tidal though and maybe will try it one day, but it seems like most everyone I know, including on Chorus, uses Spotify or AM. For the sake of easily sharing links/playlists and stuff it kinda just makes sense to go with what’s popular
