It’s only started happening this year I think. Like if I listen to the first 60 tracks today, and then want to start with track 61 tomorrow morning, it’s shuffled the whole list, so now that first 60 contains tracks I haven’t listened to yet AND ones I have, so I have to spend time figuring out which ones I have and haven’t, which is a hassle.

 

Ugh.

Well, I think I just reached the final straw. Article’s a few weeks old, but I was unaware. Gonna start porting my playlists over to another platform and looking into alternative ways to scrobble to last.fm

Right, lol. I mean that’s really what’s kept me on Spotify for so long. They’re the ethical punching bag of streaming services, but it’s not like the other “big” ones are much better. Apple pays artists dogshit too but skates by on “still better than Spotify”. Not to mention the other various things wrong with that company, which also includes a major donation to Trump’s inauguration by Tim Cook. I know some folks that use Tidal and like it, and iirc they’re one of the best in terms of artist payouts. Definitely have no interest in moving my library to YouTube or anything like that

It feels like a no win situation, but Spotify just keeps taking these types of Ls while continuously refusing to improve the user experience in any way. Every time some shit like this happens I think about how I’m indirectly funding it and can’t even say I get lossless streaming out of the deal lol. Wish Bandcamp had a big enough library to justify using them exclusively

 

I read it that way at first too lol, but they definitely meant “where” as in “which platform will you switch to”

Amazon pays out the best but you have to give more money to them. And they’re bootlickers.

Apple is like third or fourth in payouts. Also Tim kissed ass.

Tidal is still owned by Block, a buddy of Elon’s and have cut their payouts.

At this point I’d say buy the music, use some local file player on whatever device you use, and go that route. You could also choose to pay for iTunes Match because that’s still a thing at $25/year.
