Release My Mind, My Garden Grows

Decent library management is all I want really. I should be able to sort all my saved albums by release date ffs.

  2. Only if we can also fix release dates - so many 20th century ones are straight up wrong by years.

  3. That's generally a mistake on whoever uploads it to the DSP, rather than Spotify's.

  4. Oh I know, but I can edit metadata on iTunes, I'd like some form of that for Spotify even if its just for me.

I need to vent about something, but before I vent, I need to give some context.

Back when I pirated music, I used Winamp to listen to it, and I loved the arrangement I had in my Winamp library where I could choose an artist, have all their albums in chronological order, and it was great. Perfect.

Of course I don't pirate anymore, and I use Spotify instead, hence my posting in this thread. But I'd been fiending for a setup like what I had with Winamp, and so I decided to go the long haul and recreate it through playlists. Make a folder for a letter, put folders for artists under each letter folder, and put playlists of their albums in each artist folder.

And so far it had been going great! Up until now, because I've finally hit something I feared but hoped I wouldn't reach: the limitation on how many individual playlists I can have. I cannot create any further playlists.

My heart is broken. I am enraged.

  6. What is the limit? Now I'm afraid I'm going to hit it.

Somewhere between 9000 and 10000, it seems to vary.

And if that sounds like a lot, bear in mind a playlist for me represents an individual album, EP, live album, or list of b-sides, and some discographies add up quickly.

  8. No I get it. I use playlists extensively as well, although thankfully nowhere near that. I did easily max out the playlist song limit on my favorite songs though. Good to know!

My “recents” tab continues to piss me off. It hasn’t updated since yesterday morning. All the new albums I’ve been listening to since then aren’t showing as I’ve even heard them. Annoying

Same here. Another weird thing is anytime I specifically search up a song or album and listen to it, it automatically gets set to repeat, even though I have that play next feature turned on (or whatever it's called haha).

I wonder if there’s a big update coming or it’s cuz they’re getting ready for Wrapped

  12. I have definitely had the recents issue before but haven’t noticed it for a long while. Was actually thinking about how well it was working a couple months ago when I was switching back and forth between my regular listening, an audiobook, and playlists for the Music Leage app

    hmmm

I fucking hate that there are now comment sections on podcast episode pages. Spotify should be a haven from that; a rare part of the online universe where I don't have to be confronted by someone else's stupid fucking opinion.

  15. Didn’t even know they had that. Feels very unnecessary. I pretend I do not see it

Is anyone else finding artist pages now separated by albums and singles even when you choose to see all releases?

Up until yesterday everything would show in chronological order, but tonight I'm seeing all the albums first and then EPs and singles beneath, and I'm fucking livid if this is an actual change and not a temporary bug.

I'm trying to make artist playlists and I'm relying on that chronological order to make them. If nothing else this makes my job ten times harder.

Right, except right now I'm in the desktop app and the web version and up until yesterday when I choose to "Show All" on an artist's discography, everything then gets shown in chronological order from newest to oldest.

But now it's showing albums in order first and then everything else. It separated them for no reason, even though they already have filters to do that.

I don't want to go on and on about this, but I cannot overstate how frustrated I am right now.

It was bad enough when I had to drop my "playlist for every album" plans when I hit the upper limit on the number of playlists Spotify will let you have, so I settled for having one playlist per band but at least in chronological order.

And now I can't even have that, or at least not without a lot more work than I was prepared to make for myself.

Like, I kind of just want to say fuck it, and go back to downloading music and making my library in Winamp like I did back in college. At least then I'd be able to control my library the way I want it.

I still just want them to add 'sort by release date' to the library. Is that too much to ask for? yes, yes it is

There are sooooooo many things Spotify could do to improve their app but they're only interested in AI bullshit.

I mean, pretty sure I remember the CEO basically saying their only obligation was to play playlists and that's it.

  25. I'd love this but truth is, especially for 20th century music, the release dates are just plain wrong sometimes. That may be the artist's or label's fault when uploading, but still. Not to mention reissues, I wish those had old and new release dates.
