What constitutes listening to a song on Spotify? Is it listening the whole way through? 60 seconds? 1 second?

Most of my 'top songs' are songs that are the first on a playlist after I listen to an album. Like, Haunted is my No. 3 top song. So if I'm finishing up the Hot Mulligan album, or Blink album, Haunted is the first song that comes on next, or No Shoes comes on first and I immediately turn it off.

Interesting that 3 of my 5 top artists, their songs are nowhere to be found in my top 40 or 50 songs.

you can listen to music on Spotify AND support artists directly by going to shows! buying merch! vinyl!

I’m mad my top artist is Drake because he only has 1 song in my top 100 and I refuse to believe it’s him

100% agreed, Im personally very aware of all the issues with spotify, but I also still see my fav artists live when they come through and buy their merch when I can afford it. If Spotify wasn't a thing a lot of people would just be using things like soulseek for most music anyways. No one in their right mind bought all their music when the only major digital options were itunes and the like.

Also I think of the 'accuracy' in the case of something like this to be how close the wrapped data compares to how I actually feel about those artists or songs. For example Narrow Head is my aoty and also my top artist on my wrapped, which I find kinda neat to see.

One of my friends on Insta shared their list, showing over 81,000 minutes this year, which I refuse to believe is accurate, because I listen to Spotify every single day, at work, on the bus to and from work, and at home, and I only hit 35,000 minutes. Every single year since Wrapped was a thing, I’ve always thought my supposed minute count was much lower than reality

    Not newbie, I think Supporter

I find mine to be accurate but that glitch where spotify always plays the same damn song after it ends its current spot bumped Coffee Shoes by Hot Mulligan to number 1. It is one of my fav songs, but I skip it now because my spotify never stops playing it lol.

    Die rad.

For sure! I feel like every release they have tops their last and a decade later and they were able to continue this trend. Its a shame What It Takes & The Big Deep didnt take off as much as their first two albums. Was so happy to get this band back in 2023 and I think they may be here to stay for a bit. Doug seems to really be enjoying himself and the fact that the crowdfunding was funded so quickly shows people missed them. Its my Album of the Year

I definitely think some people must leave their Spotify on all night, because those numbers are insane but totally do not count if you are asleep lol

Anyway, my top artists were The Wonder Years and Fireworks which I think confirms arrested development more than anything.

  19. Like usual, they got a gist, but the data is definitely incorrect. Ever since I started being diligent with Last.fm, it’s become evident that the Spotify assessment is not raw data. Also their genre tags continue to be totally fucked haha

I had 46,663 minutes which 100% makes sense (down from 56,237 last year). That's 127 minutes a day, and I don't listen as much on the weekends but a typical work day is probably 5 hours of music going on between meetings / quieter tasks. My commutes are audio books, so it's a reasonable number to me. Waiting on my main music buddy...

He had 356,764 minutes last year, or more than 99.99% of listeners. He definitely forgets his music is playing and just turns down his speakers though and then must leave it playing. That's 978 minutes a day or 16.3 hours a day. However, he is a music fanatic to the max degree so he probably does listen to more than most but not that absurdly high.

EDIT: Just in - 308,975 minutes

Never heard of Narrow Drain but that's good stuff... Balance and Composure / Teenage Wrist / kind of modern grungey / shoegaze mix type of stuff. I like it a lot. Dreamo is an accurate genre (though never heard of that term either).

I think you meant Narrow Head (but honestly narrow drain sounds pretty cool too ngl) NH are a great band though. They're like a perfect balance of what I love about bands like Basement with a bit of Smashing Pumpkins and Hum in the mix. Them and Soul Blind are two of my favs doing that style but theres been a good handful of bands popping up the past couple years mixing grunge/shoegaze/space rock sounds in a similar way.

My tastes have really changed in the past couple years hah. Also this matches with what last.fm says, except Jungkook should be number five, but his album came out a month ago so it didn't make the cutoff.
