Two years ago today, during the company’s Stream On event, Spotify announced a new streaming tier that would let customers enjoy lossless, CD-quality audio from the leading subscription music service. Spotify felt the news was worthy of some star power and filmed a promotional video for HiFi with Billie Eilish and Finneas. The Apple Music thing totally makes sense. Hard to charge for something when your competition just released it for free, and if only a small niche of your audience was going to pay for it anyway, it doesn't seem worth the effort. Granted, I think they could get away with charging like an extra $2/mo. for it, and people like Spotify enough that they wouldn't leave for Apple Music. Just not sure if it's worth the effort to them.
