was supposed to be least... maybe it isn't as bad as I originally felt, but still not on the same level as Transference > Girls Can Tell > Gimmie Fiction > Kill The Moonlight > They Want My Soul for sure
Interesting that you rate transference so highly since most fans don't put it there and it was not received well commercially/critically. I loved it, but put it behind They Want My Soul & Girls Can Tell for sure. Not sure how the other albums rank. After further reminding, I think Girls Can Tell is my favorite Spoon record. Tough call though.
Spoon is one of those rare bands where every record is different yet undeniably Spoon and fucking kills
Transference is also my favorite. Really bold album. But I think the new one is damn good. Perfectly on par for them, in my book.
I think the latest is good overall, insanely good for how deep into their career they are, but probably a notch below their LPs from Girls Can Tell to Transference "Do I Have to Talk You Into It" is an instant classic for them tho imo
“Pink Up” is my favorite. There’s a part of me that wishes they’d gone full-tilt Kid A and made the whole album in the vein of that and “Us”. I really like the whole thing, though. Not a step down for me at all.
Their top 4 records are interchangeable for me. Kill the Moonlight, Transference, Gimme Fiction and GaX5. After that I’d go Hot Thoughts, They Want My Soul, Girls Can Tell. Still don’t feel I’ve given their super early stuff enough time to properly rank.
Britt was on the most recent episode of "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me!" this weekend: Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!
I think Hot Thoughts is one of my absolute favorite Spoon records at this point. I'm really excited to see where they go from there. This year's releases keep getting better (assuming they release in 2019).
A 2 year turnaround time seems quick for them. Not that I'm complaining, I just wasn't expecting anything new until at least 2020.
I could see them demo-ing/recording this year with an album in 2020, but here's hoping we get it earlier!
even though I wasn’t crazy for HT, I’m not worried because this band has made so many records I love... consistent fits them to a T
so consistent. these guys are the real deal. They Want My Soul is my most listened to but Girls Can Tell is my favorite if that makes any sense.
