After a few listens I have very mixed reactions. On the one hand, I expected them to take the inevitable super-poppy, reduced screaming turn, so I love that they didn’t. But the guitar work is boring and was much more interesting and melodic on the self titled, as were the vocal melodies. Hope it grows on me more because this was the most excited I’ve been for a metalcore release in a really long time. I’m stoked it seems to be having some crossover appeal across the site though.
I had heard a couple songs over the years, with nothing really clicking with me, but I was curious to eventually hear an album. I admit I'm confused by the hype, sure this sounds competent and they're good at their instruments but... this all sounds like pretty standard and derivative metalcore with the vaguely atmospheric touches, the djenty riffs, and all the other tropes I've known to expect from the genre in the past decade. I find all the melodies and the attempts at poppiness so weak and generic. Nothing stood out to me, I feel like I've heard it all before way too many times.
Weird seeing so many people referring to this album as Metalcore - It's a metal album. And for people saying that it's derivative and comparable to other bands - somebody please point me in the direction of a band capable of 'Silk in the Strings' on the same album as The Summit or Constance For me it's the finest, most refreshing metal album I've heard in years - That's where the hype comes from
I feel like this album has something for everyone. Really diverse yet cohesive. I absolutely adore it right now.
I really enjoy this album. Songs like Sun Killer, Eternal Blue, Halcyon, and Constance really showcase the talent and potential the band has as songwriters. That said, the five single rollout and the awkward track sequencing makes this a tougher listen than necessary. I get you need to promote the album (and there’s 2020 which stalled things), but I can’t help but wonder how much more the album would be blowing me away if I heard it all with fresh ears.
not a single record store in houston got a copy of this on vinyl in. hirt you, halcyon, and constance are my highlights so far.
Patiently waiting for my copy to ship. Can't wait to own this, been listening on repeat for the past few days.
this record is slowly but surely growing on me. it still feels a bit like listening to Evanescence in earnest, which is weird, but the hooks are undeniable.
I love that this album switches sounds back and forth, Secret Garden into Silk In The Strings is so cool.
