Sam’s There’s no turning back! BREAKDOWN is fucking DOPE. Also the end of Secret Garden is next level. Can’t wait to see what’s next for this band.
I completed a 50 mile trailrunning race on Saturday and I psyched myself up with the prerelease tracks. I had Hurt You solely in my head for the first 30 miles solid. (After that it was some new Chvrches songs). Album is very good.
Also not sure what people are hearing in this one. Sounds like it could be by any nameless pop-djent-butt rock metalcore band from the last 10 years. "Hurt You" is mad corny
i was completely unsurprised to find out this is ex-iwresteledabearonce releasing an album on rise records, facts i only realized after i was halfway in and trying to find answers on what this is.
I get what you’re saying, but honestly this genre you just described sounds really dope to me and maybe that’s the difference in what you are hearing vs. what I am hearing. I love high energy metalcore stuff and this is some of the best the genre has sent my ears in a while. It’s still cool that there’s only been a couple negative responses on here thus far. Courtney also absolutely kills it live and I cannot wait to see her on the Underoath tour. That lineup is too good.
This record is fucking massive, my lord. Production & Mixing is so well-executed, and the vocals are great. "Hurt You" "Eternal Blue" and "The Summit" were the standouts from my first listen. Also, I'm pretty sure most of these songs are all MIDI-Drums, which is fucking wild that we're at the point where they sound that good.
Yessir. (Humblebrag me mentioning it, but I'm proud I got it done haha) It's kind of wild, I know two 50 year old or so dudes who just think this band is the shit. I love it this band reaches a wide demographic. I won't stand for any negative thoughts on Hurt You. One of the catchiest choruses' I've heard this year and the breakdown goes on forever in a good way. The verse riffs are just fun.
This band would've been way better served if they leaned more into the more ethereal/melodic/poppy-ish stuff; there really is a bit too much here the wades into generic metalcore/nu-metal territory. I don't even necessarily actively dislike anything here, but I'd like it way more if we got 11 more The Summits instead.
i believe that their touring (and possibly now official?) drummer Zev recorded at least some of the drums for this album, although on an electronic kit, so it's still technically midi and mostly written by mike, but it has the realism of an actual drummer to make it sound better!
