So glad I pre-ordered, this is so good. Feels like a spiritual successor to the s/t which is my favorite release. Everything about this band’s aesthetic is so good, too. The colors, the word marks, videos, all of it.
these new songs stand out more for me, i found that EP to sound like one long song. still not bad though, this band can't do bad.
Rotoscope felt more different than their norm, this feels very similar to Eternal Blue but more consistent.
EP is great, although i found Too Close / Too Late to be treading familiar ground (although it was written pre-Eternal Blue, so i guess that makes sense), and while The Void has grown on me, it felt like a poor choice to release as the lead single considering just how much their sound evolved on Rotoscope. i absolutely love Cellar Door, Jaded, and Ultraviolet, and Angel Eyes is really good too (albeit still growing on me). i've found myself appreciating each of their releases for different reasons. S/T and a couple songs on the Singles Collection were really striking in some of their subtleties, while the other songs from that EP, Eternal Blue, and Rotoscope had a more upfront and experimental energy that i loved hearing in anthemic choruses and breakdowns. with TFOF, it's the best of both worlds. i like all of the songs, but half of them i loved the minute i heard them, while the other half i'm still dissecting and will probably come to enjoy more over time. there's some great experimentation that i'm excited to see them build up on in future releases, but also some more conventional material to draw in new/casual fans. something for everybody, i guess.
Not super related to this EP but I think Rotoscope will be my new goto Spiritbox song. It's so much fun!
been spinning TFOF for a few days now and i have to say, i'm blown away again. it's another no-skips record. they've imbued this with enough depth that it's got the feeling of an album within the 6 tracks. they're making a strong campaign to become one of my favourite bands.
Yeah, I dig some songs on the first record but from Eternal Blue on I’ve loved every track. Obsessed and need to see them live again ASAP.
One of the best feelings in the world is recognizing when a band has elevated from the “i check out and enjoy their releases” tier to favorite tier. This year saw Carly Rae Jepsen and spiritbox hit that for me. Good duo.
nothing has pulled me in since that album...sounds like i need to give her more recent records another shot?
