  6. After the first watch this was ... fine I guess. I felt like this had, at it's core, a good message but really poor execution. The idea that Spider-man would try to save the villians is great and all but the film completely forgets to address the collateral damage caused by Spider-man's initial decision, and whatever crazy stuff the villains are up to while they're working on the cures.

On top of that, characters just flow in and out as needed within the scene, not with any real logic. Dr. Ock being gone for a whole stretch of the movie just to show up to save the day was silly. Same with Dr. Strange.

I did appreciate that Peter seeking out Dr. Strange was less about himself and more about those around him, but making setting the plot in motion because Peter is annoying was weird. Also felt weird that Strange felt an obligation to Peter for anything since I don't recall them really being buddy buddy, other than maybe calling back to Peter's plan on Thanos' ship.

I dunno - I'm probably way overthinking it but this felt like the biggest, loudest toy commercial I've seen in a long time. It was cool to see AG and Tobey for sure, but I still maintain that overall this is a pretty bad trilogy of films and personally some of the weakest in the MCU.

With you for the most part. In general the entire middle third was one big eye roll for me. I do think I enjoyed this film more than the first two but…it was just okay for me. I adored Garfield and willem though.

people can give Webb shit (i still like ASM1 more than most, ASM2 probably as much as most which is to say not at all) but acting like he was a “talentless hack” before getting hired is hilarious. i don’t even love 500 days of summer but there’s more directorial vision in that mediocre movie than anything Watts has ever done, this included, and i actually thought this was the first time it felt like something other than AI directed one of the MCU spidey movies

It’s kinda funny how once Peter was told the charges would drop, nobody seemed to care he was Spider-Man anymore

All the school stuff happened after that, plus he was being hounded by JJJ and news helicopters the whole movie.

But he was also able to just casually walk the streets to the Sanctum

He knows how to get around the city undetected when he wants to, he’s Spider-Man

  13. Because this movie is incredibly sloppy at a plot level. There's some good stuff in here for sure - but really they just hastily threw a bunch of stuff together to get to the "cool" stuff in the 3rd act.

I'd really love to hear someone's opinion who really hadn't grown up with the first two iterations of Spider-man to see if this is a movie that on it's own can tell a compelling story without having to rely on the audience's connection to the past to do so much of the heavy lifting.

Yes, the kid who dragged a helicopter with him to his aunt's apartment knows how to navigate the city undetected

Yeah my biggest gripe with this movie is it really feels like two entirely separate movies

He didn’t drag anyone there, once his identity is out in the world the first thing people in the news media are gonna do is find out where he lives and go there lol

What collateral damage do you mean, though, and how would you have wanted it addressed? The property damage was within the range that all these movie in this genre are guilty of, even the good ones, and one of the scenes specifically ended with Peter sticking around to fix the damage. And, the only death we know of is May, who jumped in because with great power there must also come great responsibility, and the rest of Peter’s arc was grappling with if he believed in that more than he believed in revenge.

The initial botched spell was a very dumb plot contrivance, lol, but it was early enough that I’m happy pretending the movie starts after that and is just about reforming villains who supposedly “should” die, lol. Two thirds of this being a good movie sandwiched by a loosely connected dumber one is enough to satisfy me; I’ll just have to figure out what scene/time to start at when I rewatch eventually, lol.

  22. For me it was that these are unquestionably pretty bad folks who, when left to their own devices as they are for a good stretch of the film, could’ve been out just killing people and there’s seemingly no urgency in the film to stop them outside of the “this is bad for the multiverse” stuff. Like we kind of just hangout with the other Peters and have a ton of comedic moments when it should be all hands on deck. Again, it’s on me for overthinking this way too much and admittedly I could be overlooking something in the movie that I missed.

I mean, they weren’t out of the movie for that long. They scatter, Ned/MJ meet AG and Tobey, they go to Peter, make a plan and prep for it, and then Peter calls them to the statue all in one night. Do we really need to see the villains during this?

Also, the point of the movie is that they’re not “unquestionably pretty bad folks” and aren’t gonna go “out just killing people” indiscriminately. If one of them started shit before the Peters and friends were ready, they would’ve done something about it.

I don’t care if they pop in and out of thin air - just don’t be dopey and corny af all the time and I’ll like em much butter lol
