yeah this was fantastic for me. just shameless fan service obviously but done very well. especially happy that all the villains and other Spideys weren't just glorified cameos like I was expecting, actually investing in all of their arcs was a great move. Molina, Dafoe and Foxx were absolutely fantastic of course but Andrew Garfield stole the show

What if Venom 3 is Eddie spending the whole movie trying to figure out how to get back to the MCU to talk to Peter Parker?

    Assume It's A Bit

Or he could go to New York in his universe to try and find his Peter Parker

I guess, but wouldn't he no longer have a reason to do that? Also, I'm joking.

They shouldn’t make Andrew the Spider-Man in Venom’s universe, they should just make another Spider-Man movie with Andrew now that he’s already playing an older version of the character. Just this time don’t get laughably bad trash-tier writers and don’t get a terrible hack director who was only hired because his last name is a spider pun.

Totally disagree. Andrew Garfield's face in that small moment was just enough. Sometimes other emotional scenes that were drawn out felt more awkward. This wasn't forced, it felt natural.

When Tobey got stabbed I was real worried they were gonna pull a Han Solo on us, but then I got so relieved when he said, ”It’s fine, I get stabbed all the time!” That would have ruined the movie for me.

I can certainly see issues with the writing in TASM2, but what's wrong with Webb's directing?

    "TASM 3" is trending...

  14. Nothing, but especially when compared to who has been doing most of these Marvel movies. (But, again: His movies are good.)

Is there anyone who would actually be against a TASM3 with Hardy’s Venom featured?

If the rumor is true that Marvel is wanting Maguire and Garfield back for Secret Wars then I’m sure Sony is going to keep at least one of them in the public eye over the next few years.

Fun Fact: Marc Webb directed Helena and Ghost of You by MCR - the latter is my favorite music video of all time

"Ghost of You" is the one I always remember, but he also did "Teenagers" and "I Don't Love You." Some of his other work includes "Call Me When You're Sober" by Evanescence, "Fidelity" by Regina Spektor, "Miss Murder" by AFI...

Well, I could mention recognizable examples forever, so here's the whole list. Lot of surprising stuff in there.

Between those videos, 500 Days of Summer, and the ASM films, he's got a pretty good eye for visuals that pop. I don't think he has a great original film in him (maybe he'll find the right script and prove me wrong?), but as long as we keep getting all these popcorn franchises dominating theaters (sigh) and streaming, he's an underrated pick for that space. Too bad the bloated script and poor reception of ASM2 stalled that for a bit.

Apparently his next film is a Disney live action remake (SIGH!) of Snow White, which had some script work by Greta Gerwig. Everything in me roots for every one of those to fail (unless you count Cruella, which was a ton of dumb fun), but I wouldn't mind that getting him to another fun project.

Webb isn’t exactly blameless for how bad TASM movies were but TASM2, a movie I have a very low opinion of, shines when placed next to the MCU’s drab, nearly artless design and feel

I’m more and more convinced every day that this piece is one of the most important pieces of media criticism ever written, a heartfelt plea for the soul of a dying artistic medium that bad faith fans have twisted into making Scorsese out to be out of touch or a snob or a hypocrite because they took it as a personal insult instead of a matter of fact look at the differing functions of art and commerce and how the latter has begun to drastically oppress the former, with the MCU being a powerful tool in that movement.

I agree that it is far more difficult for lesser known/new ideas to make it in the industry when compared to these gigantic blockbusters, but I also can’t hate the player as it’s just the nature of the game.

Just like with everything else in life, people love familiarity and comfort. Marvel struck gold with being able to make films that provide entertainment for all age groups, suitable laughs, and tension that doesn’t cause too much dread in the viewer. Combine this with stories that focus on many chapters of each character that the audience can know and follow for multiple years and there will be an emotional connection between that character and audiences.

Who doesn’t love a success story? Who doesn’t love to see someone who is supposedly grand (superhero) make hiccups and mistakes that they can overcome throughout a 2 hour drama? Who doesn’t love both of the above in a character they have watched develop while going through numerous of those? There’s a reason comics have resonated with people for so long. Marvel has been able to switch mediums with that generational jumping attraction.

What doesn’t make “worldwide audiovisual entertainment” cinema? Is cinema not suppose to capture the imagination and hearts in cultures around the world? Is it through the audiovisual medium? Does it not entertain us?

If “cinema” isn’t capturing imagination, providing it through the audiovisual medium, or able to entertain us while we’re being exposed to it then what on earth is it doing and what is the purpose of it?
