After hating FFH and finding its credit scene baffling, my pitch for fixing this (disappointingly popular) Spidey involved a mix of Ditko’s Scorpion and Spider Slayer stories, the Back in Black era, and Zdarsky’s Jameson stuff in Spectacular. Now that they’ve this very different route that still put the genie back in the bottle, I don’t think that’d work as well.

My new pitch: Have Mac Gargan become the Scorpion just by getting some tech from the Tinkerer, as a fun throwback to the Homecoming crew, maybe with Shocker returning as his partner. They’re the gang Peter’s fighting while he’s wearing the symbiote. Then, when Peter frees himself, Mac gets the symbiote and becomes Venom.

If you put Randy Robertson in Peter’s college supporting cast (along with maybe Gwen Stacy, Glory Grant, and/or some fun deep cuts), you have an organic way to get to Robbie Robertson in spite of this different Jonah take, which then gets you to Tombstone and the rest of Spidey’s crime cast pretty nicely.

I was looking for it and yeah they go over the top in thanking Avi by literally stating that “none of this could happen without him” or some such. Definitely worth a guffaw at its wording. Soon as I read it I knew that’s what they were referring to.

Also, I just got out of this and I’ll echo what others have said about Andrew and that MJ moment in particular. He nailed that scene and it was definitely my favorite part. I also appreciated the line about Tobey’s bad back because, to me at least, it read as A.) a callback to the “my back” moment in Spider-Man 2 which at the time was a nod to Sony nearly recasting Tobey with Jake Gyllenhaal, and then B.) a dig at both Tobey and Andrew’s series being rebooted when Andrew chimes in and says he’s had similar issues.

I do have a question about Michael Keaton’s Vulture showing up in Sony’s Morbius? It would seem Morbius is in the Venom-verse so…what’s Keaton doing there? Is he supposed to be an alternate universe Vulture but still Keaton?

Yes, yes, I know. Nothing matters, etc.

I too saw Kraven in the multiverse cloud in the third act there. Had me excited for a moment. Curious to know if anyone else was spotted by viewers.

Oh and I did also like where they left Peter off in that it’s, yeah, kind of where everyone wanted to see him start from in the first place. Chuckled when he moved into his crummy apartment all alone and you could hear the landlord offscreen telling him not to miss rent. In every universe, his greatest villain is coming for him:

    Well, you see, nothing ma-

Really, though, I think it just comes down to Morbius being developed at a time when they hadn't sorted out where everything fits. Like, principle photography might've been in the window of time where the Marvel/Sony deal had broken down behind the scenes, lol. Plus, the film originally was gonna come out before the new Venom & Spidey films, and they were still writing this movie's ending after production began. The credit scenes of Venom shifting into and out of the MCU were a late decision probably shot together (since the one in LTBC was shot on the NWH set); that was probably them finally settling whether or not Sony would treat the Toms as being on the same earth.

Supposedly Michael Keaton was doing some small reshoots literally earlier this month, just a month and a half before Morbius comes out. I'm guessing, after including him in the first trailer, they decided to just commit to that and massage the details so it makes enough sense for their future plans.

I really do like that mid credits scene being how Venom is brought into this universe without undoing the Tom Hardy movies or trying to force the two together

This makes sense. I forgot when they shot Morbius and how long it’s been since that first trailer. Thanks as always, Covid.

The more I think about the Venom post-credits scenes, the more I think my feeling on it basically boils down to "That's fucking stupid. I love it!"

Like... they could have had the Venom symbiote introduced in the MCU through any number of ways, but instead they chose to do it through two brief post-credits where Tom Hardy just pops in and out without interacting with anybody.

It's like... what a power move of a fuck you.

We know 100% they are going to have 1 movie in the college trilogy be on the black suit arc. They wouldn’t have bothered showing a piece of the symbiote otherwise.

This scene felt so rushed and underwhelming to me. They could have made this great but it was just so fast and brushed over.

Flash Thompson (Revolori) is going to end up being MCU Venom like in the comics right?

Ugh that'd make Topher's Venom feel like a Willem Defoe performance in comparison

It wouldn't seem logical to me to make Flash Venom right now as things are. The comics Flash had grown up and been through a lot and also had become a much better person by the time he became Agent Venom. Unless they wanted to make the MCU Flash Venom something completely different, which I guess they could, but I feel like it would be a waste.

And I also don't see Revolori doing a good job either, frankly.

For Agent Venom to work, I think there'd need to be enough time and events passed in universe for the character to have changed and for also another actor to be cast as an older version.

Or they could just pull him out of the multiverse, ha.

    Assume It's A Bit

Just pull Flash from TASM or the Raimi movies. It'd make about as much sense logistically as MCU Flash becoming Agent Venom

tony is actually a very good actor as shown in some of Wes' projects, just woefully miscast with a criminally underwritten part
