I’d say that both Peters felt that way but it only seems like that since they both don’t show up until the 3rd act pretty much. Though, I’m pretty sure they didn’t green light the multiverse story until Tobey and Andrew both committed to it because it was originally going to be a Kraven film.

Eh with Andrew it felt like they kind of knew what to do with the character and how to further his story (him going all Back in Black post-TASM2 and his moment of "redemption"). Tobey was the closest this got to fan service for the sake of fan service IMO

Well that’s because Tobey’s films didn’t end with something like his gf dying lol he was pretty much at peace with Harry’s death and trying to fix things with MJ when SM3 ended where as Garfield was still distraught.

There were a few insiders saying that Tobey was taking longer to sign on to the film.

Tobey got to save GG which he seemed to regret not being able to do in SM1

  7. Yeah they turned the evil Dafoe facial expressions and mannerisms from the first one up to 11 in this one

I get WHY Andrew had more going on than Tobey. Even though there was a fourth one being planned, the third wrapped up Tobey's story pretty neatly and there wasn't much else for him to do character wise besides saving Norman, but they could have explored a little more of his pseudo-retired life with MJ and (hopefully) Mayday. He just always felt more tacked on than Andrew did, but maybe Andrew's performance just elevated him above what the writers actually gave him idk

I do actually remember hearing that a while back now that you mention it

  9. Andrew had the crowd in my showing swooning from the minute he showed and with everything he said and did

  10. I think Andrew's Peter was always this popular, but was opaqued by the problems in his (otherwise good) movies.

When we last saw him he had gone through so much shit and no one thought we'd ever see him again so to see him after what he went through and especially with the performance he gave, it carried soooo much more emotional weight than anything Tobey had going on

For some reason goblin stabbing Tobey is sticking out as being really stupid. It’s entirely pointless if he was just gonna go “it’s okay, I’ve been stabbed before” 30 seconds after the fact. Why even include it?

I think that it's important to remember that half the people in your showings probably weren't even alive (or too young to remember) when Tobey was Spiderman so that could have something to do with it.

Tobey’s felt a little more phoned in. Andrew felt like he was straight up channelling his performance and emotions from “Tick Tick Boom,” which is great

  15. Wait didn't Andrew lose someone recently? I can't imagine how it must've felt filming the scene where he saves MJ.

Probably just to show that Goblin is such a dick that he stabbed the guy who just saved his life idk and there’s no way they were going to kill off Tobey

The whole film was full of moments like that.

Of all the moments where I thought the writing of the movie was lacking, that wasn't one of them at all. That felt like a pretty natural sequence to me

I really hope with the new suit/no one knowing who Peter is, this gives the franchise a clean reset for Spider-Man to do Spidey things without having to crowbar another MCU character in. Let him deal with Aunt May's death and being a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

  22. I think moments like “I get stabbed all the time” come from a permanent creative decision at Marvel that these movies have to remind the audience they are mainly there for a silly good time

It’s a mechanism to avoid or at least postpone superhero fatigue and a way of them saying “we know you are aware of the tropes, but you keep coming back because you have fun anyway and we make fun of us too”

Another example (which actually made me laugh) was Jamie Foxx telling Sandman “guess you gotta be careful where you fall”

Killing Aunt May kind of solidified that already.

Hopefully but it depends on what Sony wants. After all it was Sony that forced a MCU character in every film (which they admitted they had put in the contract). Maybe Sony will realize that not every Spider-Man film made with Marvel Studios needs to include a MCU character.
